Did you install the new CC? If so it should be removed and reg cleaned and reinstall old version.

Seems like the new version is buggy and should not be used.

yeah. I'm going to uninstall it. I called dell and they said to wait for a fix coming out in a few days.

I heard that so much. I wanted to say some words but I remember that he is a llittle tech suppoort guy that doesn't know ish about anything that's going on in dell.

Is it normal for the m17x to mooove really slowly when playing Empire Total War on the very high in graphic settings with 4 x 4 (4 against four me + 3 cpu against 4 cpu)?

Only this one the others like Dragon Age: Origins will only be lagging a bit from time to time as well as WOW due to the latency I think. I was thinking that the Empire Total issue could had something to do with my cpu. But I do not recall that my desktop with a Core 2 Duo 2.6 cpu ATI 3850 512 ram had this problem...

Dwarf, did you try either the 10.2 or 10.3 ATI drivers yet? I'm getting much better performance out of 10.3

Will do it one of the days. However I fear that this might be due to the latency as well. Mostly the lagging. The other Empire Total War I am not sure about yet.

I believe I installed 10.3 fresh and it worked for me (which was a relief)

I uninstalled all other ati drivers and ran driver sweeper, then installed 10.3

I got my 10.3 drivers to work by installing just the drivers and leaving catalyst back on the 9.12 modded version. Weird, but it worked.

since they load properly, I would do an uninstall and driver sweep before installing 10.3s

by the time u order it in the coming months you prolly wont be getting an r1. ssds dont improve in game performance. just general boot and load times.

so if you want a fast computer that loads and boots fast yes its worth but its prolly more worth if u buy it outside and install it yourself

I have a question for all of you.
Is there a way to keep the internal/built in monitor from activating when opening the lid?

Its such a nuisance, that I wake my computer from sleep (lid closed) using the keyboard so that the external monitor is activated before the internal/built in so I dont run into any refresh issues.
The problem is, once I want to play a game, i open the lid to keep excess heat from building up and it always enables my built in monitor when I dont want it to. So I have to launch NVidia and disable it and re-enable the external.. Is there a way to disable that auto turn on of the built in monitor when external display is hooked up when opening the lid??? I have tried finding a way to do this but I have been unsuccessful... I don't even know if its possible.. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

dont think i have this issue with my atis. never really tried

used to have that problem with my nvidias as well. as far as i know there is no way u can deactivate it unless u manually disconnect the cables to the internal lcd

Since I got my ATIs installed I did some testing on the above.
It does seem to be an issue with the NVIDIAs.
With the ATIs, I can see a mirror image of the BIOS and pre windows screens on built in and internal where I couldn't on the 280m's.

Once I disabled the Internal Monitor, I can open the lid at any time and it doesn't activate the built in monitor, I can wake from sleep with the lid open and it doesn't activate it, ect..

So it does appear that it is either software related or hardware related on the 280m's

that's the m17 not the m17x. The m17x uses 3.0b me slots meanwhle the m17 uses 2.1 mxm which your notebok supports.

Yeah I was comparing the M15x 1920x1080 screen to the RGB LED 1920x1200 screen... difference in night and day... the RGB color saturation is so much better in games and with video is fantastic!

Yeah it kinda bothers me too a lot, especially since i saw right away with mass effect 2 when i was playing it compared to my precision! This is what i hate about these companies they throw out the old machine and gives us crap, I would love to have a RGB LED screen or at least a LED one.

So I see from the service manual that the optical drive is connected via a SATA bus. Does anyone know for sure if this is SATA 2, like the harddrive buses? Am considering taking the optical drive out and stick another drive in there.

Anyone do this yet with this computer?

It will not take a harddrive because it is a mini SATA port not the full size one that the harddrives use. You would need some sort of adapter I have yet to have seen. And even if you did it, not sure you could include it in any raid arrays

    mini SATA

That is probably due to installing the nvidia controller driver. They have problems seeing the temps when that driver is installed.

Do you have the nvidia controller software installed or the windows 7 default?

If you have the nvidia installed, you should remove it anyways as it causes problems on windows 7.

Everest has a beta version out that will allow it to see the temps when that software is installed. However the beta version is flaky and I had to remove it when I was testing it.
