it is a shame to say it, but I am pretty sure I am going to be FAR from 2nd best score once these ship out haha

But instead of spending to get the laptop 4870s, I would rather spend on the desktop 5870s

 

well my guess on the 9400m is that it will not work with the 4870x2 unless someone with a desktop and has hybrid sli can prove me wrong?

i also believe that NST will not work for changing ram timings, fsb, etc.
but we will have to wait and see.

 

Does anyone else know if its normal to have it show two monitors when in sli? and if this isnt normal how can i fix it?

 

I never realized how bad the memory leak (I think Moo mentioned it first) that the Command Center causes was. I followed BatBoy's procedure to disable Fusion, Sense, and AlienFX at startup (lights still work with AlienFX closed btw) and I noticed that after a few hours of doing exactly the same things I now use 30% Ram, as opposed to typically 50-55% Ram with Command Center fully enabled.

This Command Center is some buggy stuff, even if for me it works great (without counting the Ram part).

Dell has spoilt my experience. they had my system picked up yesterday only to tell me that the replacement would take 4-5 weeks. I am gonna fight for compensation. Dell India Director has extended my warranty frm 1 to 3 yrs but i am gonna ask for a hefty discount on the aurora alx. i am also ushing for a free inspiron as a goodwill gesture. btw guys i need ur help on this. i am thinking of getting ATI CrossFireXTM – Dual 1GB ATI RadeonTM Mobility HD 4870. r they better than the 280m in Sli? if they r then ill try to get tht for free as well.

 

I would not get to carried away with what you think you will get for free.....it will not be nearly that much

 

I mean we're all notebook enthusiasts here but are you kidding me? Get real man. If it takes 4-5 weeks then return your PC and take your business elsewhere. You do not deserve free stuff just because you have money, everyone has money. Only dell sells the m17x, and you have some customer responsibility as well.

I'm all for customer service and fair compensation but you're truly taking the pi$$. They've extended your warranty for free by 2 years and i think thats VERY fair, this is a significant value. Aparently it wasn't good enough for you anyway.. maybe they should have skipped out entirely because you wont be satisfied until they make you a shareholder for free too?

 

thos r some of the things i can try to claim. btw dell marketing told me tht most customers have recommended nvidia over ati. i have never handled atis so i dont knw how they compare to nvidias but i dont mind switching loyalties.

 

whoa chill bro! dont pounce on me. im trying a couple of things not everything but i do request you to read the letter i posted earlier in the thread. btw my ordeal didnt end ther; dell wasted almost 8 days for my system to be picked up and i had to come home early for 4 days to meet the logistics guy...

and yeah another thing we dont have consumer protection laws as in US or UK. The Dell Sales has asked me to push for these. and i dont need to be a shareholder, i do have a rt to claim compensation either legally or thru an out of court settlement.

Bro u tell me how would u feel when ur lappy stops working in 12 days after receiving it and it would be almost 2 months until u get a new system. prob started on 19th sept and i can expect a replacement only on 15th nov. its like booking 2 m17x s and getting none!!

still. my t9400 in my whitebook idled at the max temps.

 

Still wish i could have figured out why that one card was hotter then the other even at idle.. I re did the paste 2 times and the same results both times.. OCZ freeze... Cant say i have payed much attention to other peoples temps over the months though..

 

It is because it is the master card....and does not downclock like the slave

It stays clocked for the 3d load of aero (at least that is my guess)

 

I was looking at your temps and didnt notice the temp difference ? are you not running Aero ?.

Though under load they should have been close to the same but the temp variance was still there ...

 

Ya I just noticed that for once mine are the same too, but normally the main one is hotter

Its not like its anything to be concerned about either way since the cards run so cool as is but just something that i was wondering ...

I Didnt want him to go ripping the cards out the same day in search of an answer since i did it twice trying to fix it but ended up with the same exact results both times ..

 

ya like I said, USUALLY the main is hotter by 5-7 degrees......(I know I look stupid right now lol)

i dont think its staying at 3d clocks because of aero.. aero works well on downclocked cards as well.

i had both my 8800gtxslis down clocked to 200 core 100 memory and no aero lag at all.

i think the master card doesnt get affected by powermizer thats why it doesnt downclock.

 

even though it does not take much to run aero, the card bios detects a 3d load and keeps it at full speed

 

when i am settled in i will flash the bios to optimize settings on everything like my 9800m gtx but not right now it's to early.

 

Isn't this a driver version issue (I seem to recall seeing this over @ LV2Go)? My GPUs downclock properly and I have Aero enabled - running v186.82. Weird.

 

It may be a driver thing, but I know that the speeds that get selected are in the card bios at least

 

It's odd for me, my second GPU runs about 5-10c hotter than my first. Or maybe the HWMonitor is reading them opposite? But I've noticed my right back vent's air blow isn't as strong as my left under load... maybe I have a weak fan? The second card's temp has only ever hit 85 max on a hot day though.

 

the second gpu is the master card. it's the same thing i was wondering about my whitebook.

 

So.. here's a weird one..

I'm getting my m1730 exchanged for a m17x, which is still happening, I even have the order number for the new unit with an estimated ship date of Oct 27.

I just received my m1730 in the mail today repaired, and the video card upgraded from an 8800 to a 9800, what gives? Why would they bother still fixing it, if their sending me a new one?

Guys please help! i installed win7 x64 ultimate but it freezes randomly (not always) when i do something with windows explorer or when i download something using firefox. win7 loads superfast but when it freezes sometimes the only solution is to force it to switch off.

anyone else has this issue and how to fix it?

 

had the same prob but im not sure if its the same cause.

i reverted back to bios a01 and then reinstalled a02 again and problem solved

 

Not sure if this was done a few days ago, but I was just looking over the M17x order config area and Dell has completely removed Vista from the OS options. Only Win7 now. To be expected - I just figured they would have left the Vista option for the time being (like they did with XP when Vista was released).

 

win7 officially release in 4 days! many of us have it already but great news for the rest. and the best news are the new win7 drivers that BatBoy found and completely solved freezing!

 

Yeah my 1730 was actually factory installed with XP and came with a Vista Ultimate disk for when I was ready. Was kinda nice.

 

The M17x can now be purchased configured with Windows 7 Installed!

I'm happy I suppose, I had heard that it would only allow running 3 programs at the same time. Kinda makes a Quad core useless don't it??
