Well I hope to have mine installed by next Friday, and it won't be an engineering sample

    Does that count?

I guess if it is not an engineering sample it has to count...

The M17X R3 BIOS version A03 has the following fixes:

    1. Added support for B3 PCH.
    2. Updated cpu micro-code.

I am just wondering what the second thing means. Updated CPU micro-code... Not sure what that means.

Cpu Micro-code enables new cpu's to be used, let's all hope this implements the Extreme SB chips and not just the i5's.

I'd hold off on that Kune, if the new bios doesn't also have support for the old chipset you could have some major issues. There isn't anything I'm seeing there that you're going to benefit from so I'd hold off or at least contact an AW engineer first.

It will support old and new chipsets (at least I would assume they are not that stupid....)

And it would be nice to see support for the 2920xm added.....it was a glaring absence at launch

Man can't wait till someone has one... So curious to see if it has a tdp ceiling set in place by intel preventing decent overclockIng... Hope throttlestop can still manage to open the floodgates on these new gen extremes! If not they'll scream EPIC FAIL!

A couple of questions when it comes to how easy it is to upgrade some things. So I don't spend too much with Dell considering how much they charge.

    1) RAM: I was thinking of making it 8gb myself. Since it should be cheap. Easy to do?
    2) Hard drive. Going to buy the latest Intel ssd myself. Is the adapter already included?
    3) Optical drive is it easy to change? The dell sales gave me an option to either standard cd/dvd drive or Blu ray reader. I was thinking of going to basic and change it to blu-ray when I got it. Simple to change?

That's it really. Also since I'm getting the 750gb hard drive with Dell and it will have the windows 7 and all. Do they give you the w7 cd in the box and all the driver cd?

I've been searching but haven't found anything definitive yet. Does anyone know if they own the R3 3D (nvidia) bundle and want to uprade to a 6970M later, if it will work? Is the 6970 compatible with the 120Hz screen? Also, since the IGP is disabled in the 3D bundle, will it be possible to enable it if upgrading to a 6970? I'm minutes away from ordering one and would prefer the 120Hz 3D capable screen and just upgrading the GPU later. But if the 6970M isn't compatible with the 120Hz screen, I'll just stick with the 60Hz/ATi option from the get go.

    1) It should be if your patient enough, just read the manual and watch some teardown videos first (and during the operation if you feel like it)

    2) It should have it inside (if that is not the case give Dell a call and nicely ask for it)

    3) same as 1)

    cheers

That makes me feel a little better.

I should tell the sales person to have the adapter included beforehad.

I don't think anyone knows yet if it supports the 120hz screen. And it is pretty easy opening the laptop and getting to the ram under the keyboard as long as you watch the videos. I opened my friends R1 a couple days ago. Just makes sure you have something kinda soft to pry the case open with because a hard one will scratch and dent a tiny bit.

Many of the questions being asked can be found in the R3 manual and / or in the M17xR3 FAQ thread(links first post of this thread).

The HD and RAM are very easy to swap out, one big panel on the bottom to expose ram slots 1+2 (3+4 are under the keyboad), and the 2 HD bays. Extra HD caddy is already inside the empty space if a 2nd HD was not ordered.

Sorta. They're just not building it fast enough. Also, I haven't talked to anyone from dell lately, so I'm not sure how "good" they are at csr-ing right now. It was bad last week though, that's for sure. Miscommunication btw depts, supervisors, subordinates, etc. Confusion to the max!

I was seriousely considering the R3 before the SandyBridge mess, and then, after that started looking at other options. I got a offer on one of my R2's that I just couldent say no to, and that combined with what I had budgeted for a R3 made me take a serious look at Sager, which, I eventually went with.

Dont get me wrong, the R3 looks really sweet, just ran into a deal that "he couldent refuse" kinda thing.

    Now...lets see those benchmarks :)

    Hey guys,

I just received my R3 today - am liking it except I'm finding that it's a little slow compared to what I imagined - shutdown/bootup times seem a little long.

Anyways, not sure if this is the right place to post this - I'm having a problem with my WiFi (using an Intel Ultimate-N 6300 AGN). I've tried connecting to 2 wireless networks (the first my own, with a password; the second, a random unsecured one), and it doesn't connnect - it just pauses and I get the annoying 'Intel My Wifi Technology: Adapter not found'. I've done the diagnostics and it passes everything until 'association'.

Does anyone else have this problem?

Thanks, and sorry if this is in the wrong forum.
