Hope we get them before our EDDs though, what's a bit worrying is that nobody seem to be receiving theirs as of late, hopefully nothing's wrong

well thats what my current system should have been hitting easily, theres just some really messed up stuff going on... my computer will just freeze, go red screen, green screen, static at random times. then the only option is a hard shut down.

EDIT: btw what are the 6970 systems hitting stock like 1800-1900?

Can someone help me in calculating the shipping charges to mail m17x-R3 to UK from US, by giving the dimensions and weight of the box that m17x comes in from Dell? thanks

    It's 21 lbs (9.5 kg)
    Dimensions are 20 x 16 x 9
Shipping to UK is roughly 150$, that's 91.5 pounds

No no wait, dimensions are length x width x depth or thickness of the box, so 9" is the thickness, that's 23 cm or 230 mm if you prefer

Pffft! 17099. Something is wrong there. That was 3D 06. I ran 3D Mark11 and got an X931 whatever that means. I mean it was 5-6fps the whole time. Vantage was 12246. Furmark was 3165. Gonna do em again.

are you using someone in the US to buy it then ship to you ?

Fedx is prob the best and they handle the customs for you if you provide the correct paperwork etc, charge is about $250, you may also consider a value that would make the VAT more realistic, 20% of 3k is quite a bit but still no where near Dell UK prices, AW R3 is about $500

Yes, my brother lives in Oregon. I will go with Fedex then. Is that price including the insurance as well?
BTW there is no customs on computers, only 20% VAT is applicable.

Well I finally received my M17x R3 today. To my disappointment, I do have what looks like one dead pixel and one bright pixel on the display. Is this worth replacing/calling Dell or could the new panel turn out worse?

If you not 100% satisfied, contact support. you have 21 days from the date of the invoice. I suggest you contact them if not 100% happy with your purchase. You can always return it and re-order or ask for a new replacement. Given the pixel policy, the key is you are 'not satisifed' and want to return/replace.

What is the pixel policy for Alienware notebooks? I was looking on Dell's website and it seems to be 1 bright pixel.

So I'm facing a new dilemma - Mr. Level Two has offered a complete refund of my r3 and a discount on a new purchase (or system exchange) - and I must now decide:

    Black vs. Red

I really enjoy the red right now, but it's a bit gaudy.
    Thoughts? Input appreciated.

So what would the majority of you do? Would you return the laptop with 2 possibly stuck/dead pixels or keep it? I'm really sure not what to do at this point. Just don't want a big hassle with Dell.

If you can get the return I would do it. That gives you a chance to fix any regrets you had one the first order. I would also image your drive so you can just pop it in the new one and save yourself some trouble ;)

Return and suck them dry for everything you can get "extra".

After seeing the complete lack of customer care its only right. I personally got $150 back -AND- was promised an upgrade to 2820qm.. Build in production (started today) doesn't show it listed though. Not really expecting to get it but when I DO get the laptop I have full rights to throw a storm and see what else I can get.

I'm sure Dell will exchange your system with 2 dead pixels - especially if you are within your 21-day (30 in Canada) period. As far as I have been told, exercising the option to exchange means you get the exact same configuration in return.

If you want a refund to purchase a new system or new config, you'll typically have to return it to depot and wait for the refund to be processed (took ~9 days last time I did this).

I think a good synonym for exchange in this case would be "trade" (for an exact copy of the object in question)

In color theory black isn't found on the color wheel; its compatible with any color scheme you choose.

More info here: Basic color schemes: Color Theory Introduction

Why did I chose black? Simple, there are colors that can be chosen in AlienFX that don't go with Red. That's not a problem for Black.

Now if you choose to exclusively use AlienFX in red, then the red chassis is an amazing choice.

yeah.... the thing is the interior is black, so even if the chassis is red, to the user the colors still look cool.... and that is all that really matters

Mmm well if we really want to be that picky you can still see red when using your laptop.

Meh, lets just meet half way and say the black is the "safe" color, not that racecar red isn't cool or anything. Its pretty awesome.
