Probably the returns from the SB chipset fiasco. Updated the motherboards and putting them back out now

Just got my M17xR3 yesterday, and was wondering if there is a control panel for the IDT audio. I'm used to realtek's control panel so it would be nice if there is a similar panel.

    I'm so dumb.

I made a re-paste guide for all of you (uploading now) yesterday... I'm so used to working with desktops I removed the battery and automatically thought "Power is out, time to work"

I must've rewatched the video like 30 times yesterday to make sure my editing / sound / wording was right and then as I'm uploading it today I notice something...

A small, blue ring of light around the back. I left the power in WHILE repasting my processor with the computer completely open. Feeling pretty dumb right now LOL.
Planning on buying it tonight after work, Been busy with New Vegas ($20 BRAND NEW At gamestop until the 9th!)

Also going to buy X3: Terran Conflict... Man, so many good games coming out. Playing SOCOM 4 Beta as I type :)

Do any of you guys have the Razer Orochi as your wireless mouse for the laptop? I was originally looking at a Mamba but the "wireless" base it communicates with seems too cumbersome to take with you to various places. My only concern is that I may find it too small. I have fairly big hands and enjoy my Deathadder very much. I may just say forget wireless and buy another Deathadder for my R3. :p

If you have big hands like me, then the orochi is difficult to use. I got one for free with my R3 and never use it and will likely sell it on NBR. Get the mamba or logitech mx.

I think I may forgo the wireless and just get another Deathadder. I can't think of any seriously compelling reasons to go wireless, just wanted to entertain the possibility.

    Out of all of these
    [IMG]

I ended up keeping only the DeathAdder. Originally set out to get a comfortable wireless mouse, but apparently they all give me carpel or require a stand to get wireless functionality (mamba). Mamba felt best, even as a wired mouse, but not like 85$ better than a DeathAdder. Braided USB makes the wired mouse seem much more useable with a mobile system imo.

Had an Orochi....returned it, due to the small size. I purchased the Mamba and believe it is the most comfortable mouse built for an average man-sized hand or bigger.

I use a logitec wireless mouse, the tx/rx in usb is tiny and the range is huge, MS mouse before had a range of about 2 feet with a big thing the size of a wired mouse connected to usb, the logitec has a range of like 30 feet or something

I bought one for my wife, before purchasing it i didn't find any side by side comparison, was interested in size. It's smaller than the deathadder and I personally can't seem to get used to it. It has a great build for a small hand.
I'll post pictures of the two side by side when I'll get home if you're still interested.

That would be great. I'm not entirely sure what I'm planning on doing but I'm leaning towards just getting another Deathadder atm. A comparison would still be nice to see though.

No, but I did play the WoW trial again.

It plays with ~200 FPS on max (except shadows, which no computer can run with stable constant FPS)

Seems to be a tad lower than my old i7 920 / 5870 desktop, so it'll perform fine.

According to this: http://www.tftcentral.co.uk/search.php?query=M17x+r3&select=model it's a 17.3"WS LG.Display TN Film (LP173WF1-TLC1). It's the same panel as is being used in the Clevo P170HM. What I don't get is why everyone is complaining about this screen in the Sager/Clevo forum and no one is complaining about it in the Alienware section. It should be a bad panel in both laptops. Viewing angles don't get any better just because it's an Alienware.

Maybe someone can verify this by using this tool: http://www.entechtaiwan.com/util/moninfo.shtm

We can clear it up, if an owner would look up the Hardware ID in the device manager.

    Device Manager -> double-click Monitors -> right-click -> Properties -> Details tab -> select Hardware ID

That's the one I got. No complaints here. Games look great, so do Blurays. Only thing that would improve is brightness. It's not dim, but when I'm at full brightness, it should be TOO bright. Which it is not, because, full bright is my default.

I'm just going to bring it up again, because I wish I could use it right now.....but DELL is killing me right now. I thought WiHD was supposed to be implemented by now!!! I want to wirelessly play Starcraft 2 on my 46 inch LED! While sitting in the comfort of my overly warn and extremely soft living room couch. Anyone used the Intel WiDi yet?

If the entire screen is black, do you see any backlight bleed? How do the viewing angles compare to those of a MacBook pro? Thanks!

Hardly any if at all back-light bleed. Better if not the same as my 2008 and 2009 MBPs. The viewing angles IMHO are better as well. Really a top notch screen. Comparable to the Radiance display on the Envy 14 I returned about a month ago. And that was a NICE screen.

It's not the same screen as the one used in Clevo models. The model is identified in Astra32 as follows: : LG MGNC7 173WF1 (LGD 02DA). I have no complaints about it either aside from feeling it could be 1-2 notches brighter. It's about 20-30 nit less bright vs my RGB LED display in the R2. Not a problem since the max brightness with this display doesn't cause any eye strain. The contrast is good, blacks are decent and viewing angles are good. No backlight bleed on mine either. Color gamut is around 75-80% NTSC.

I just ordered an m17x r3 today and I have a quick question. I talked to a rep and he said adding any parts would void the warranty. Is this true or is it bs because I do plan to keep the stock ram and hd anyways so I can easily put them back in if there is a problem. Thanks in advance.

The rep I spoke to a while back told me that if I wanted to upgrade stuff like hdd or ram, it's perfectly fine (i.e. it wouldnt "void" my warranty per se). The only catch is that those parts are NOT covered by my warranty, so if they fry the R3, the R3's warranty wouldn't cover the computer, which I guess turns out that the warranty is voided, lolz. Yah, I know, makes no sense to me either... Luckily I don't need anything else other than stock, and external hdds do the job well enough :)

This is all great to hear! I was pretty skeptical of my rep because most people on here have been changing those parts as a standard.

Anyone tried watching a Blu-Ray on the IGP? If so, how was the quality?

If the parts you add yourself are the issue, you will need to remove them, obviousely in the diagnosis process.

Also a good idea would be to keep the original parts just in case a replacement will take place, one wouldn't want to return his system with the 'upgraded' parts (IE hyperX memory, better GPU/HDD/SSD etc.) as it has to be complete when returning to mother ship!

Because the powerplay somewhat automatically downclocks the gpu.
