Okay, so I have one of the first. I don't have a service tag because at the time dell didn't own alienware.

Problems: Webcam doesn't work, blu ray player doesn't work, won't read even regular dvd's.

Should I bios update? If so what one?

I am currently running on Win7 64bit, I was having webcam problems with vista 64 ultimate.

    120gig ssd
    dual 512 nvidia
    4gig memory

I am tired and don't want to go into detail of every part, please excuse me.

It is very difficult to upgrade anything on this because through dell I cannot get a service tag, when I chose to pick my machine it gives me the new m17x, and I have the old black one, it doesn't have the curved angles on the screen or the corners of the keyboard base.

Very unsure of what to do, if anyone could help I'd greatly appreciate it. Email if you want to, otherwise Iwill check the thread in the morning! :)

Although you may not have a service tag, you will have an identifier that states the exact model of your machine. If you cant find it. Downlowd HWinfo32.exe and run the application, this may well show the module of your machine. With ths we will be more able to locate your crrent / most upto date drivers and give you mor eof a detailed walk through

    Hope this helps

Usually the service TAG is stated in the BIOS. However being an older Alienware model before Dell's takeover I'm not sure how Old Alienware used to do things. Perhaps give dell a call and tell them of your situation.

    Cheers. :)
