This could have been discussed in other thread, but I could not find it...

I see that the bios has options to change multiplier and the clock speed. I understand that the multipier could only work for unlocked extreme cpu, but for my cpu, will I be able to increase the speed anyhow through bios??

It really is a simple yes or no question for those owners out there.. I would REALLY appreciate your answers!

Also, does setfsb work for the R2?? Thank you again!

Thank you for the quick reply!

1)So basically you are saying that I need to go through all that non dell bios update process to have bios overclocking???

    2) Does the standard bios offer any increasing of frequency???

    3) SETFSB does work, but not stable you mentioned. But does it get around decently or have really frequent crashes??

Thank you for your help again!

with my old 720qm, I could get it work @1,82 Ghz, original voltage with setfsb without problems, or you can use bios mod as goodstone described above with 5% OC.

you can google that thread how to get Oc by setsfb for 720qm. if you havent seen it, pm me!

    srr im onl by phone!

    Yep,

Standard bios will not let you overclock through bios. A revised mod will be out soon with higher than 5% o/c values. People have now cracked the phoenix bioses so a more customised version with more performance tweaks will be available soon.

so the voltage change for the non extreme i7 is possible without special bios mod? the function is available in default?

v/core and memory voltages are changable with Dell bios but pretty much useless unless other features are unlocked or you have an xm cpu in combination with Unclewebs Throttlestop program.

There is a dedicated team working on new versions for extreme performance due to the breakthrough of cracking the bios.

    Great.

Well my question is then, since raising the voltage helps, cant I just raise it in small bits while increasing BCLK using SETFSB?? That should theoratically work for now right?

    that is great.

Thank you all for such quick replies. It is great to have so many enthusiasts helping each other. I used a loaded M15x before and M17x nebula red was my dream for like 1.5 yrs until I got the right price!

I will ask more questions if I have later... I will try the oc and see if I can hit 2ghz.

SO last question is: when I oc, what happens to the turbo boost?? do I NEED to disable it?? does it increase in same ration as the stock clock rate??? What did you experience with the stability?

yeah it uses exactly that increased FSB in turbo mode :)

Like I said, my 720 was stable @1.82 without tweaking voltage

    Good luck btw!
