hahahahaha...see its never ending. Maybe you should forget i said anything :D

EDIT: Wein, sorry bro, didn't mean to hijack your thread

    BUT: apparently:

"The AMD Catalyst™ 12.1 Preview includes all of the features found in AMD Catalyst™ 11.12 and also includes all of the latest optimizations found in the AMD Catalyst 11.11c performance drivers (AMD Catalyst 11.12 does not include the latest 11.11c optimizations). It is highly recommended that all gamers use the AMD Catalyst 12.1 Preview driver."

    another interesting tidbit:

12.1: Improves performance (10-15%) in Elder Scrolls: Skyrim...

    AMD Catalyst? 12.1 Preview driver

The 1.1MB download is just a utility to download the actual driver. I was wondering the same thing myself.

What method do you guys use for a clean install?

Ry, if i wanted a completely clean install, i just use the built in install manager and remove all AMD software on computer.

Some also go into safe mode and run one of the driver cleaners available

Sweet, thanks Slick. I've got Driver Sweeper installed so I'll try the safe mode trick just to make sure there isn't any leftovers.

no...just try installing over your previous installation. Your intel drivers should still be there in that case

The 12.1s are looking good so far for crossfire rigs...

People are having success with these on the m18x forums

what version skyrim are you running? 1.3xxxx? Its working good for me so far in skyrim (actually sickeningly good)

What happen if i download drivers from intel site? I'm doing clean install. Just got my M17x

same method applies to the amd drivers( overwriting)? I don't like to install over previous drivers.

well, if you're doing a clean install, you could try installing the latest Intel drivers. Should work without issues.

Many just download the latest dell drivers, install then (with everything in) and then install over with the latest AMD drivers.

i guess you have some experimenting to do :D

AND CONGRATZ ON THE NEW R3!!! :D

after you bsod, did you reboot and continue with the install?

After BSOD i restarted into safe mode and did a system restore.

Damn, i cant wait till i get my dual 6990m in the mail this week :)

I am sporting an m17xr2 with dual 5870's by the way

Deleted my RadeonPro Skyrim profile. Enabled alternate frame rending friendly CFX on the new Catalyst application profiles. No longer have the stuttering/flashing issue, but my FPS is worse than it was with 11.11. CrossfireX still isn't working I'm pretty sure. I'm really getting tired of this. Really unprofessional on AMD's part.

Wish it hadn't been broke :p Haven't been able to use CFX with Skyrim for over a month now. I think everyone that plays this game and has Crossfire is desperate for a fix, and AMD keeps teasing us with these hundreds of different versions of drivers...such a headache.

Ya it didn't do anything. I've been testing my FPS via standing before the first bridge in Riften after entering. I get about 24-28 fps just standing there. That doesn't seem right to me. I get great FPS in all other games I've played. BF3, Crysis. It's just this game that's giving me trouble...

Well 12.1 works fine as far as drivers are concerned, but CCC won't run at all. So I am using 11.10 CCC with 12.1 preview drivers.

Skyrim is still the same have to Alt +tab out to get XF to work, I am missing the major functionality of CCC right now to try to make a custom CAP for it. Something I was really looking forward to :(.

Quick question, what do you guys have for settings in Skyrim? I have literally everything as high as it can go EXECPT that I have AA disabled and FXAA enabled. Any thoughts? Still no dice on Crossfire. Makes no difference whether or not I have it disabled. It's not like the second card isn't working. In Furmark, the second card heats up as expected. It just flat out will not work with this game at this point in time.

Anyone try this with their R2 running 6970s/6990s

I would but 11.11 had me do a full restore from backup, so I'm trying to avoid that again.

Maybe I'll make a new backup and then try it...or maybe 11.10 is good for now :)

Really? That's great! I'll give them a go after I get home from work.

I didn't have to do a system restore after BSODing on the 11.12 luckily. I just booted into safe mode and cleared the remnants with Driver Sweeper, then reinstalled trusty 11.10.

Also that .dll trick with Skyrim worked wonders for my rig. I didn't have to alt-tab out of the game any more after I placed the file in the Skyrim directory. Hope 12.1 can improve performance a bit though.

    To confirm:

11.12 does not work on 5870s

    12.1 works on 5870s

For 12.1 I upgraded from 11.10 without doing clean install. I just installed ATI 11.11 CAPS afterwards.

Does anyone know what this is supposed to help with? It took me 1 hr to figure it out...

the 12.1s include all performance fixes from 11.11c, so you've got everything up to this point...plus 10-15% increase on skyrim with msaa on. I don't know if they fixed xfire yet though for skyrim

I tried to install the 11.12 driver, and BSOD, so I went into safe mode disabled the display adapters, rebooted normally, and now my system is stuck flashing on the windows start screen right before it goes to desktop. I have tried everything I can think of, any ideas? So frustrated. I can go into safe mode still, I have completely uninstalled all ATI drivers, still no fix, I tried windows repair too.

I got BSOD during install of 12.1. Screen flickered a bunch and then boom BSOD. I reinstalled and it seems to have done the trick...not too sure what happened. But it works now.
