Anyone want to be brave and test them out![]()
-
-
I'll take it for the team and give it a shot on my R2.
Wish me luck! -
These drivers are like drugs! 1st thing ill do is install them when I get home
.
Why does it say 1.11 MB? -
SlickDude80 Notebook Prophet
wein, they installed on your R2?
i'd install these, but I'm already on 12.1 lol
ten char -
Where do you get 12.1 :O
-
yea where's 12.1???
-
SlickDude80 Notebook Prophet
EDIT: Wein, sorry bro, didn't mean to hijack your thread
BUT: apparently:
"The AMD Catalyst™ 12.1 Preview includes all of the features found in AMD Catalyst™ 11.12 and also includes all of the latest optimizations found in the AMD Catalyst 11.11c performance drivers (AMD Catalyst 11.12 does not include the latest 11.11c optimizations). It is highly recommended that all gamers use the AMD Catalyst 12.1 Preview driver."
another interesting tidbit:
12.1: Improves performance (10-15%) in Elder Scrolls: Skyrim...
AMD Catalyst? 12.1 Preview driver -
The 1.1MB download is just a utility to download the actual driver. I was wondering the same thing myself.
What method do you guys use for a clean install? -
SlickDude80 Notebook Prophet
Some also go into safe mode and run one of the driver cleaners available -
Sweet, thanks Slick. I've got Driver Sweeper installed so I'll try the safe mode trick just to make sure there isn't any leftovers.
-
does 12.1 drivers support mobile cards?
-
@bigspin yes
Getting some really bad flashing and artifacts with these drivers in Skyrim. With both CFX enabled and disabled. -
so Slick, no bsods or any annoying install issues for you? I'm wanting to try these out but my experience with new drivers is not very pleasant.

Batman Arkham city runs like crap on my 11.12 NOV 18th driver.
-
-
SlickDude80 Notebook Prophet
The 12.1s are looking good so far for crossfire rigs...
People are having success with these on the m18x forums
-
same method applies to the amd drivers( overwriting)? I don't like to install over previous drivers. -
No go guys. BSOD central for me
Back to the old faithful 11.10... -
SlickDude80 Notebook Prophet
Many just download the latest dell drivers, install then (with everything in) and then install over with the latest AMD drivers.
i guess you have some experimenting to do
AND CONGRATZ ON THE NEW R3!!!
-
I can also confirm a BSOD for me as well.
i did not do a clean isntall.
I selected express isntall
After BSOD i restarted into safe mode and did a system restore.
Damn, i cant wait till i get my dual 6990m in the mail this week
I am sporting an m17xr2 with dual 5870's by the way -
SlickDude80 Notebook Prophet
yikes. So its very possible that the 12.1's don't like 5870's
-
BTW i have A9 bios. -
intel 1st then amd
-
Deleted my RadeonPro Skyrim profile. Enabled alternate frame rending friendly CFX on the new Catalyst application profiles. No longer have the stuttering/flashing issue, but my FPS is worse than it was with 11.11. CrossfireX still isn't working I'm pretty sure. I'm really getting tired of this. Really unprofessional on AMD's part.
-
If it aint broke, don't fix it. Thats why I never update my drivers. I updated from stock dell to 11.10 on my everyday setup. Benching I'll update but havn't in a while. Anyone try the new M18x drivers?

AnandTech.com - AMD Releases Catalyst 12.1 Preview ? Custom Application Profiles, HD3D CrossFire, & More
The ability to make custom CAP's is gonna be sick. Downloading 12.1 preview now. -
Haven't been able to use CFX with Skyrim for over a month now. I think everyone that plays this game and has Crossfire is desperate for a fix, and AMD keeps teasing us with these hundreds of different versions of drivers...such a headache.

There's also the infamous alt/tab trick -
Ya it didn't do anything. I've been testing my FPS via standing before the first bridge in Riften after entering. I get about 24-28 fps just standing there. That doesn't seem right to me. I get great FPS in all other games I've played. BF3, Crysis. It's just this game that's giving me trouble...
-
Mechanized Menace Lost in the MYST
Well 12.1 works fine as far as drivers are concerned, but CCC won't run at all. So I am using 11.10 CCC with 12.1 preview drivers.

Mechanized Menace Lost in the MYST
Skyrim is still the same have to Alt +tab out to get XF to work, I am missing the major functionality of CCC right now to try to make a custom CAP for it. Something I was really looking forward to
.
-
By the way, why can't you edit the application profiles in CCC? You have to delete them and start over every time. Doesn't make any sense -_-
-
hiya,
I have still BSOD like with 11.11(R2 with 5870CF)
cheers,
Mac -
Quick question, what do you guys have for settings in Skyrim? I have literally everything as high as it can go EXECPT that I have AA disabled and FXAA enabled. Any thoughts? Still no dice on Crossfire. Makes no difference whether or not I have it disabled. It's not like the second card isn't working. In Furmark, the second card heats up as expected. It just flat out will not work with this game at this point in time.
-
Anyone try this with their R2 running 6970s/6990s
I would but 11.11 had me do a full restore from backup, so I'm trying to avoid that again.
Maybe I'll make a new backup and then try it...or maybe 11.10 is good for now -

The 12.1 preview drivers are successfull with the 5870 Xfire too.
-
I didn't have to do a system restore after BSODing on the 11.12 luckily. I just booted into safe mode and cleared the remnants with Driver Sweeper, then reinstalled trusty 11.10.
Also that .dll trick with Skyrim worked wonders for my rig. I didn't have to alt-tab out of the game any more after I placed the file in the Skyrim directory. Hope 12.1 can improve performance a bit though. -

Dellienware Workstations & Ultrabooks
To confirm:
11.12 does not work on 5870s
12.1 works on 5870s
For 12.1 I upgraded from 11.10 without doing clean install. I just installed ATI 11.11 CAPS afterwards.
Does anyone know what this is supposed to help with? It took me 1 hr to figure it out... -
SlickDude80 Notebook Prophet
the 12.1s include all performance fixes from 11.11c, so you've got everything up to this point...plus 10-15% increase on skyrim with msaa on. I don't know if they fixed xfire yet though for skyrim
-
I tried to install the 11.12 driver, and BSOD, so I went into safe mode disabled the display adapters, rebooted normally, and now my system is stuck flashing on the windows start screen right before it goes to desktop. I have tried everything I can think of, any ideas? So frustrated. I can go into safe mode still, I have completely uninstalled all ATI drivers, still no fix, I tried windows repair too.
-
I got BSOD during install of 12.1. Screen flickered a bunch and then boom BSOD. I reinstalled and it seems to have done the trick...not too sure what happened. But it works now.
