i don't know if its the *most* demanding, but it definitely pushes my computer. The texture pack is probably the thing that pushes it over the top. Running DX11 was not too bad on my R3, but once you load those high res textures, it was noticeably affected in some areas in the game
Still, i'd say metro 2033 is still more demanding, and the Witcher 2 is probably more demanding

Yeah Metro 2033 is definitely the most demanding game out there. Not sure about the Witcher. It is demanding but not the most.

crap, how the hell I forgot witcher 2, but I don't know maybe because of the engine witcher 2 takes so much resources, it doesn't look better than crysis 2, but ultra 1080p is impossible without a desktop (involving m18x according to notebookcheck)

Actually the Witcher 2 on Ultra is easy as long as you know what to tweak. Turning off UberSampling hardly affects the image quality. It is more like exhaustive brute force AA, very intensive. If you turn that off, then boom everything runs like butter

ya, ubersampling, i can't run on my laptop. No way.
I tried it on my desktop with SLI GTX 570's and it was able to run
Regardless, i'd have to say that the witcher 2 is the best looking game this year for me -

and yea slick the game looks amazing, but I bet my 900p screen doesn't do it justice -
still definitely it looks at least as good as crysis 2, and at witcher 2 looking at distances, especially in the forest, right

Apologies to Rev. I didn't mean to compare the 580m to an intergrated intel GPU. An over-exaggeration definetely. Just implied frustration at the throttling Dell imposes which seriously undermines it's potential performance. I feel frustrated for the poor guys having to deal with this whilst being thankful my own AMD 6970m doesn't exhibit similar handicapping.
I still maintain Dell should be fixing this without having to resort to the homebrew methods. You pay top dollar for what should be a great card & then Dell do this. Clearly not implemented properly. We can only be thankful there are so many good guys on this forum who take the time and effort to provide these solutions and workarounds. -
I'm sure Rev didn't take that personally. I do however think that playing a game with throttling is perhaps worse than just having a weak GPU. At least the latter is consistent.
Homebrew is the future though. Without an online community, the big corporations of the world will deem anything necessary and charge obscenely for it -

hahahahaha...just kidding
No one took that personally so don't worry about it -

ok guys, its been a while. i just managed to fix the problem now, and the solution was ridiculously simple. (i didn't trade in my 580m for 6990m)
As i tried other games on my rig over the days, I started to wonder why crysis 2 steadily decreased its frame rate to 0 while other gpu intensive games like bf3, dirt3, and even crysis warhead ran just fine.
moreover, when i ran the game, the temperature was only 60 degrees. It didn't seem like the thermal throttle (which is 79 degrees) because i already disabled the power throttle using widezu69's method
like this:
So i began to think that it was just the game's problem itself. I tried re-installing the game, re-installing earlier and later graphic drivers, fiddling with the optimus options, and so on but nothing worked. After hours and hours of searching for ideas i was about to give up... but then it hit me. when i was looking at the crysis 2.exe file i found out that it was running in xp service pack 2 compatibility mode. i unchecked that box.... and this is the result:
lol??????? seriously?
IT WAS NOT THE TEMPERATURE THROTTLE THAT WAS HINDERING THE GPU. I just had to run the game without compatibility mode (windows 7 mode didn't work either).
i am now a very happy. thank you everyone for your support, i am finally able to run crysis 2 on my m17x.

glad to see you finally got it working. We all have these oh Stupid me moments -
man increase the settings right now 99fps is a little bit way too high
Oh dear, is this gpu throttling?
