So I finally receieved my M17X with 680m & it was all perfect in the beginning until I realized there is a 'bright dot' in the middle of the screen (top middle) & my switchable graphics doesn't work. FN + F7 doesn't work.

Someone please give me some advice on what I should do..

I would call Dell immediately and ask for assistance.

I would call dell and ask for a replacement machine to resolve the screen issue. As to switchable graphics, the FN+F7 doesn't work on Nvidia systems because of optimus. It will automatically switch from the 680m to the igpu. If you having problems with getting a game to run properly you can whitelist the game. Look at the guide in my sig if you need help with that. :)

If you have the 3d model I thought I read somewhere that the switchable graphics are disabled in them. Either way though, that dot still poses a problem so I'd see about getting it replaced.

Not switchable, Optimus is disabled on the 3d 120Hz screen. the switchable graphics is designed for the AMD systems with useless Enduro.

Sounds like a dead pixel. Call in right away and get your replacement. Sucks that you have to go through this, hope your replacement system comes in perfect working order

I called them, and all they could do was send a service tech to come and replace the screen on tuesday. I don't mind and I get to use the machine anyway so hopefully that goes well.

Trust me, that is an outstanding (best) outcome to the issue.

Yea it sucks that the system has to be opened up days after you get it but it is what it is. A dot would bother the heck out of me...

AFAIK, optimus is nvidia, enduro is AMD. Both are the same technology for switching automatically in the driver between the descrete and the integrated GPU - supposed to detect what gpu to use, but does not always work as it is supposed to. Fn-F7 is the manual switch.

In the 120hz display model the igpu is not wired in at all. The screen connector to the MB is different. Upshot - if you have the 120hz display you only get the nvidia display adaptor and can only use nvidia cards as the AMD and the intel can't 'drive' a 120hz display . HTH

    I don't really. I'd call for a replacement.

If you have dust under your screen call for a replacement.
