Anyone who could help with what's best for my 'buck' right now, as the 675m is standard on the old alienwares currently on the UK store (rather than the 660m)

From what i read the 675m is on par with the 765m? the only thing that sucks is that the M17XR4 (top one) doesn't have the 1080p option anymore, but it's a really cheap price

If it's a money issue, go with the M17xR4. Otherwise, I'd go with the latter as you get the benefits of eSATA 6GB/s, USB 3.0, slight increases in CPU and GPU performance and the better display.

    You're paying $279 for:
    2gb ram
    250gb hdd space
    Sata 6gb vs 3gb

Up to you if it's worth that or not. The only one of those you can't upgrade yourself for way cheaper if you want to in the future is the 6gb vs 3gb SATA connection.

The CPU and GPU in both are essentially identical since between the two you might get a couple % performance boost if you get any at all.

You're forgetting the screen difference as well.

There's a screen difference? He has both specs listed as identical screens 1600x900 neither is IPS etc...

You can also just buy a 1080p upper or just the panel and install it yourself.

I don't know where you read that a 675m is on par with a 765m because the 765 is far superior.

The 675m is really a 580m in disguise (i.e., same gpu and card but with a new number on it). The 580m is 2 generations old now.

According to this site...765m has +50% framerate in diablo 3, has double the shader units, scores 25% better in 3dmark11 etc.

    GeForce GTX 765M vs 675M

    Its not even close

Did you read the site you linked? The cards are very similar performance...
The 765m won on D3 and MW 3
The 675m won on Bioshock Infinite and Deadspace 3

    They tied on Crysis 3...

The 675m has significantly higher memory bandwidth, double the render output processors, and double the memory bus.

The 2 cards are virtually identical in performance they each have tests, games, and benchmarks that they beat each other in and end up pretty evenly matched. I guess if you only played Diablo III then the 765m would be the better card but since literally no one plays Diablo III I don't think it matters.

LOL...i guess i should have scrolled down the article a tad more. hmmm...it seems the 128 bit bus and 16 rops on the 765 are really holding it back. Oh well...both these cards look a tad weak by today's standards. I guess it makes sense to go to at least the 770m...if not the older 680m or 780m
