Hello everybody. I just wanted opinions on whether this is a decent deal on a new M17x. I got this quote by going back and forth over email with one of the EEP reps (he said he was based in the Philippines... not sure how to get a US rep). Anyway, should I try for more? I am going to use the Dell Preferred Account as well. Thanks for looking. Here's the specs....

    few things.

    1. if you're not going to do VMs or large PhotoShop edits, 4GB should be enough.

    2. you might consider a 80/128GB SSD for the OS and buy a 500/750GB drive from newegg for secondary storage

    3. there's a thread in the subforum on getting the best price. it's a good read. {hint hint}...

The price is ok, though you can further reduce it through a rep, IMO.
Also, 6GB is pointless, go for 4. You might also want to wait a few days and get a dual 5870CF ;)
    Good Choice and Good Luck!

I'm not sure how you guys say that he could get better. After pricing his options online, I found that he is already getting a 21% discount. 20% is the usually the top anyway, so he already broke the discount ceiling. You can try for better, but I would be happy with what you got.

yup, 20% is about the limit. He *might* try NBD somewhere during the production process, but that would be stretching it to the max.

    great advice.

One note I would not go any smaller on the ssd than 128/160. By the time you install the os and primary items on a smaller drive, you will be running low on space.. for the price/buck I would recommend the 160GB intel x25m g2 ssd.. its got excellent performance for the price. Alot of us M17x users have them.

the 128GB SSD is the smallest drive dell offers, so no worrying needed :)
