Has anyone had any experience using optical drive to hold fans? I'm thinking of getting one of these to put in the optical bay of my m17xr4

2 fan optical bay - Could be modded to fit larger fans+ come with fan speed settings

    M2 Slot + Single fan

Interesting product, the use cases would be limited but helpful for exhausting additional heat, intake models would likely be pointless unless its modded to account for that.

Looks cool, but what would it cool? It would effectivly be pulling a tiny stream of air away from the heatsinks, and that's even if the laptop's optical drive has any access to the main components, on my Clevo, it's a separate compartment

i imagined if you used the intake version, it would cool the PCH and the back of the gpu + add more air into the laptop lowering overall ambient temp.

It all depends on the laptop tbh

exhaust would be better in most cases, more universally applicable.

The other trick would be to add a heat exchanger and connect one or two heatpipes to the laptops heat sources but take it from me if the exhaust is on the right side of the laptop and your right handed its annoying having heat dumped on your hand.

Would this fit in an m17xr4 where the dvd slot is covered up do you think?

Im leaning towards probably not, but luckily for you the dimensions are included in the description so you can mock up a template and see for yourself.
