Exactly the same as mine and reported by many others. No idea why but it seems some sort of initialisation to check if a disk is present when it should not be happening?? - I tracked my 'random' ones down to System Mechanic running background tasks...

iTunes is trying to manipulate your PC by basically taking control of media devices. It's trying to make itself the default for everything, including DVD media. There's nothing wrong with your optical drive... It's Apple being Apple.
Want it to go away? Make iTunes understand it's not allowed to be your default media player. Oh, and don't be afraid to tell it to stop asking. -
I strongly advise you to go to the Control Panel, take some friends wit you, and tell iTunes to get the $@%! Off.

This issue drove me crazy on my old laptop. A solution I found online and which helped a lot is to go to "preferences -> "advanced", and turn off the “Keep iTunes Media Folder Organized” option.
Hope it helps. I haven't installed iTunes on my AW but will confirm if it works on this laptop as well! -
