    Hello,

I have been battling over the last few years with securing a good video driver for my 6990M.

At one point my card had failed altogether and Dell had to send a 'specialist' to come and meticulously take apart my entire laptop to replace the video card. Thankfully windows would finally install.

But back to my question at hand: fellow forum-goers what has proven to be the best video driver that has worked for you? It seems that there a plethora of available drivers on the web nowadays; AMD website, dell's official support website, modded drivers, etc..

The reason I ask this was because I just recently downgraded from Windows 10 back to Windows 7 with a fresh clean reformat of my hard drive. After installing some important windows updates, I went to AMD's website and downloaded the newest CCC and beta driver. Though to my dismay it did not work, and my display adapter in device manager was listed with (?), though it did show Radeon 6990M. I know it didn't work because my desktop wouldn't display 1080p resolution. From here I decided to download the official drivers from the Dell support website, I 'manually' installed them by clicking update in device manager and browsing for the extracted folder. This worked and I have 1080p resolution, but I'm running drivers from Oct. 2013, shouldn't there be better drivers that are more optimal for my system?

    Thank you in advance.

It's an AMD card. Download 5 latest drivers and measure FPS in some heavy game, choose best FPS and no graphical glitches. If you don't mind then just install newest one.

But one advice for me. Start collecting money for new GPU because 6990M is definitely gonna die without any cause in not much time. It's worthless card, I had it.

There's only one 'latest driver' on AMD's website, and as I've mentioned in my post above I tried that but it didn't work... I don't foresee my GPU dying anytime soon, they just replaced it with a brand new one...

    http://support.amd.com/en-us/download/mobile?os=Windows 7 - 64

Catalyst 15.7.1 & Graphics Driver Installer for Windows 7 64-Bit

This one lists your GPU as Supported so it should work but,I think you know the deal. It's AMD and their drivers. I had so much pain with them with two 6990Ms that I better not tell you ;)

This is version 15.7; So if you want older just google version 15.6, 15.5 and so on.

As for the GPU I can only hope that it will last longer than 1-2 years. Better to know than don't.
