Guys i got this laptop <72 hours ago

after a clean re-install (after breaking the RAID setup (CTRL+I) and running 7HP 64Bit in RAID mode (BIOS)
installing as described (by a very helpful post) in the forum (for Mx17R3)

i have now reached a point where the optimus does not engage despite forcing the GPU and or allowing it to auto-select (which does recognise the game in question) as per Optimus rules.

    So in all
    GTA IV
    ME
    ME2

are all running with the Intel 3000 and not defaulting to use the GTX 460M.....
i have the latest bios, all latest patches+ all latest drivers through AUSTRALIAN and US DELL website

any idea..... please help me fix this i do not want to wait for another system to be built, subsequently have it the way i want it to work and then find out something..........

other than that...apart from me nit-picking about a slightly loose battery....the machine has zero issues build-wise

I had a similar problem when using the latest drivers for the 460M available on the Dell support site. One of my games was no longer using the 460M and nothing I could do would force it.

I downgraded back to driver version 266.68 and problem solved. Seems to be a bug in the drivers.

I misremembered. It was 266.08. Drivers and Downloads, the one that shipped on the original release. None of the drivers I've tried since have worked properly with Optimus.

thanks Roy, but sadly no dice...GTA 4 STILL does not recognise the 460M/ Optimus does not engage when playing GTA4......sigh....and now to top it all of the 266.08 are making the PC more prone to BSOD's......2 in the last hour (while installing GTA4 Liberty stories....)

    Anwho...people help me with optimus....

i have used 267.68= optimus will not engage/intel will not disengage
i have used 266.08= optimus will engage but not for all ( and intel for most will not disengage) +~bsod's
i have used 270. series.... and more random BSOD's

i have the 60Hz full HD GTX460M intel Core 2720 with 8GB Hynix (and a replacement system being built)

Well replacement arrived and optimus still bothering.......

just about had it....contemplating whether worthwhile to look towards M18X (although i shudder about the weight) that perhaps won't Optimus-ize...o perhaps allows manual switching..or look towards the 6970 (which i worry about as the drivers are problematic and dodgy)...i still WILL not go 3D as i want some semblance of battery life
