Hi guys, I've finally decided to pull the trigger and buy an Alienware 17 to replace my aging M15x. A few questions though:
1. Can I put my GTX 680M in the AW 17 from my M15x for the time being until I can find someone who can sell me a 780M?
2. What type of RAM does the AW 17 come with? Is it kingston hyperx?
3. I've heard so much about the 120hz 3d screen but what is the non 3d 1080p screen like? Is it still a good screen?
4. Is a i7 4910MQ + GTX 680M a good combo until I get a 780M?
Thanks guys

Don't know if the Alenware 17 is much faster than the M15x with your mods on it.
1. I would maybe even look around for refurbs or ebay they have a few 780ms around. The 680m is a good card, but it might need driver tweaking to make it work and no one I know of has done it.
2. For the RAM its just generic ram, I have 16KTF1G64HZ-1G6E1 (micron)
3. The 120hz screen is good, not seen the 17 normal 60hz screen but the R4 had a good one. Just remember its a TN screen not IPS.
4. Depends on what your doing with the processor, gaming you won't need the power but it depends. The 680m is a good card, but it might be easier to get the 880m. 780m is still a good card, but they might fix the issues with the 880m. -
The 4710MQ is plenty for gaming. The 120Hz screen is a TrueLife display. It's better than the standard 60Hz, but the 60Hz screen is great.
The GTX 980M has been confirmed to come out in October. You should wait, save up a bit more, and buy that. -

Thanks for the reply guys, might just keep the stock 860M in it for the time being then. When the GTX 980M comes will it mean the Alienware laptops will be updated to a new revision?
