Is it worth it to get the 6970 over the 6870 with a 1080 screen? Or will the 6870 last for a couple years to come just fine with playable framerates. Cant decide between black or red hard decision. This will be my first Aw lap, been wanting one forever...Thanks for the input.

I just ordered one too from I got the 6970 since it was what most peopled recomended (is that spelled right lol  ) and its a pain in the $%# swapping out gpus if you find that its not enough so I think the 6970 is a safer option.

In my opinion, it's your first Alienware...Do it right!

The 6970m is in a completely different league than the 6870.

I would not spend the premium $$$ on an Alienware and skimp on the video card. The 6970m is a good value compared to other mobile video solutions. nVidia's 485m is more powerful but loses on price/performance. The 6870m is a good card for a budget-minded machine.

6970 is probably one of the best(if not the top) choices as an upgrade I would think for the m17x r3. Go for it, you'll be glad.

Edit: And especially if you're going to be doing lots of gaming! The GPU is the single most important part of your machine in terms of what will affect your game play in a noticeable way.

    Of course!

The 6970m is a top mobile GPU.
