    Hi everyone,

So I just unboxed my R3 and took some photos n video. Restarted the machine once to check the BIOS (A03) and boot speed (30 secs)

Then I wanted to open AlienFX app and after I was waiting for it to open this thing happens:

ImageShack® - Online Photo and Video Hosting

You can see a blue line at right hand side of the screen after you open it in full size. It even stays while shutting down and booting up...

Please advise what should I do. Its not even 1 hour since I have used this laptop and this is happening already

I might just be overlooking it, but I don't see anything. It's probably with the physical display of the screen itself, so taking a screenshot won't allow us to see it. You'll have to take a picture with a camera I believe.

    Hi Jestare,

Just click on the image once the above link loads so that you can see full screen image and then you will see one blue color line at the right side of the image.

I don't see anything either and I opened it full screen. Like he said you will have to take a picture with a camera.

I am wondering if it is a GPU issue or a screen issue. I guess one way to figure it out is to switch it to the integrated graphics and if it's still there its the screen and if it's gone it's the GPU.

It might be a monitor issue. Graphics card artifact would show in a screen shot.

Since it didn't show up as a screenshot but is easily visible in the photo, its probably a screen problem, maybe screen cable needs re-seating.

I guess you will have to hook it up to a tv or monitor until it can be fixed so you don't have to see the blue line if it is indeed the screen.

If it does turn out to be the LCD (or related components) refer here:

    http://forum.notebookreview.com/sager-clevo/554147-purple-line-down-center-my-lcd.html

Whenever I've seen reports of vertical lines on the LCD screen (including by own case) it tended to be a fault in the LCD display. In my case the data tabs that line the horizontal edge of the monitor started to fail. This apparently effects all the pixels that tab controls, hence the solid vertical line. Never heard of an out-of box issue like this before though, usually happens after a lot of usage.

Just called up Dell technical support. They asked me to perform little test to check if my LCD is really faulty by holding on to D + Power button. And guess what in the test also I can see the blue line.

So the technical guy gave me two options:
    1) Send down a technician with the LCD Part and replace it.

    2) Replacement or Refund

IMO, I will go for a replacement instead of messing up with my machine which is 3 hours old?

You had about 2 weeks between ordering and receiving. Hopefully part of the delay in getting ours involves testing...

Seriously, I am quite frustrated atm..we pay so much of money to Dell and they can't even test the machine before its being shipped.

I am a IT Security guy and this is my first alienware laptop which I had been eyeing from long time now. So to start off the alienware experience I am not that happy but does not mean that I hate it or anything..There are always screw up in our field lol..

When I got my Alienware m17x r2 in November, as soon as I took it out of the box the touch pad was not functioning. I opened the system and the touchpad was not plugged in?! Yes, NOT PLUGED!!! As soon as I plugged the cable everything was just fine. Unfortunately for some reason, the fans run at an medium speed without slowing down at all time... Dell support people even logged in my system and could not find the fault. Finally towards the end of the day I realized that HWInfo could show me the reason of this. Some 'part' on motherboard was at all time hot (75 degrees Celsius) and that was the reason why all fans where running at all time.

Finally, after few days a technician came and replaced the motherboard. He had no idea about alienware and wanted to take my system in the 'lab' for fixing it. I told him that I will guide him on how to replace it. Since then my system had no problems, however Dell give me another 10% discount, knowing that from the beginning I got a 'damaged' system.

Now I am waiting for my R3 to arrive in few days. Hopefully I would not face the same issues all over again.

plz somebody verify my results above with their R3 with 6970M..just want to make sure the results are fine so that when I get a replacement I can compare these results with the new one.

Also, my temperatures were between 62-70.

I can say that those temps are extremly good. My r2 goes up to 82c (main gpu), 77-78(2nd gpu) and 68-70(cpu). The other results you will need a r3 user to verify, but I can verify your temps atleast ;)

Ok Just got off from the phone with Dell...

They offered me to replace my laptop with a new one. Meanwhile, they said they will send down a technician to replace my LCD till the replacement arrives so that I can at least use the machine.

It sounds too good to be true that they are doing both things. Is this normal for Dell to provide such service or something phishy here?

Also, that guy on the phone mentioned I will get email from Dell in 1-2weeks time to confirm specs of the replacement laptop.
