I bought this r1 last year, it has intel p8700 and sli gtx260m. Now i want to overclock this cpu but I have no idea how to do it. I check the bios and in the CPU section, it said Unlock CPU: Not detected, but i can still change the memroy and the FSB in BIOS, my bios is A02, i open it up last week and i put thing back already. Please help me, thank you very much

Someone please help me, I really need some help with this
-
Easiest way is to work with the FSB overclocking in the BIOS. That and you can also use the throttle stop program to increase the multiplier in windows as well as voltage. But contact UncleWebb, I believe there is a differant version for the R1 if I'm not mistaken, maybe not.
-
If it's not unlocked, the only thing you can change is the FSB. You'll likely need to use throttlestop to keep it from throttling also, especially if you overclock the GPU's.
-
thank you for replying but i dont understand what is throttlestop or hjow should change the fsb. I never oc before, this is my first time, i have no idea
-
I just did something stupid and now my m17x is dead. I went into bios and changed both memory frequency and fsb to 1500 and 1333 then i save and exit, when restart, the screen isnt on, i tried to restart several time, then open the cover and disconnect the bios bqttery and reconnect it, i turn the computer on and there is the same dead screen. I open the whole computer and put a new thermal paste and pad on the cpu heat sink, i take the cpu out to see and nothing different, i clean the computer up in advance, now i put everything back and the screen isnt on, the keyboard light is on, the alienware push button is on, the sliensare head on the screen isnt on. Idk what happen with it right now, can u guy please help me, i still have the 1 year plan i think but i had lost my rceipt. Pleass give me some advices, i rreally worry
-
try pulling the RAM one at a time and see if it that will do it. -
I pull both of the ram out and turn on but it still not work, should i just pull one out then turn on?
I change the speed at first and the cpu go up to 2.8ghz, i tried to make it up to 3.0 like many did but now i end up like thisguess i was unlucky
-
Try unplugging the notebook. Take out the battery and the CMOS battery. Then hold the Alien head button for 2 mins.
Plug everything back in and then see if it boots up this time.
Cheers. -
I just pull one ram out i turn it on, now it has the beep beep sound when it turn on then everything stop, im afraid i have dome something really bad now
-
How to i uplug the cmos battery, is it the bios battery thwt next to the fan, i think it is glued to the computer, i can only unplug the cable but csnt take it out
-
Worse case scenario is you may have fried your RAM. When OC in the system bios. You should choose the unlinked option and try OC the CPU FSB only to begin with.
Cheers. -
I chose the unlink one but i change both of my memory freq and the fsb. If i destroied my ram, both of them are dead or only one? My new pair is coming so that should be fine
i jus wonder if any of the ram is ok or both of them die? Is ther anyway to tset them?
-
I jusr did what u told me, hold thebutton down for 2 mins, i turn the computer on and the screen is still black but the beep beep sounds has gone. Does this mean i had fried my rams?
-
Is anything showing up on the screen after you do what I suggested above?
You can also try leaving out the CMOS battery for a few mins and just let the notebook sit for a while. Then put everything back together again and turn it on and test to see if you can get back into the system bios or even better boot back into windows.
Cheers. -
So do the keyboard lights and alien heads all light up when you power up the notebook? Do the fans come on?
Any signs of life?
Cheers. -
There is absolutely nothing appear on the screen, i dont think the screen is even on, it is just dark and the alienhead behind it is dark too. Im trying to get in to the system but the screen is ddad. When i turn it off after waiting for 2 minutes of nothing, it turn of after i push the alienhead right away. This is just like when i plug the cmos out and lug it back in and the hqrddrive raid get back to default, the computer will say missing operating system... I think the problem is the screen but how can this be related to the oc cpu??? I check the cable of the screen and everything is alright
Fan is on, light on the keyboard is on as normal, i just dont see the light behind the the scree, i dont remeber if it is usaully on when i turn the computer on or not. The fan is really strong and the disk drive still loading. Theree is life in it -
Okay try connecting an external screen if you have one. Then boot up.
Sounds like the OC has caused some problems here. Might have to be patient now and take out the battery and CMOS battery again. Hold the alien head down for 2 mins again. Then just let everything sit for a while 10 mins or so..... sometime others recommend like 30 mins or go do something else and then come back and try again.
Do you still have warranty? You might need to call dell soon if things are still screwed up.
Any lights flashing on the keyboard when you power up the system? When you turn it next time wait a couple of mins to see if anything shows up at all on the screen or external screen.
Try and unplug the AC adapter from the wall for a few minutes as well.
Also try booting up with the CMOS battery plugged in but dont plug in the notebook battery. Leave that out and plug in your AC adapter and boot up the machine.
Cheers. -
I have sucessfully OC'd my P8700.
In the bios only I set the FSB to 1333 and it makes the P8700 run @ 3.2GHz -
Are you sure you plugged the screen in properly when you disassembled the system? OCing can be dangerous if you don't know what your doing. Which is why I suggest anyone wanting to Overclock, please do a search and read a lot about it!
I would try replugging in the screen and if that doesn't work, call Dell, and tell them you have issues. Don't mention the OCing though. -
I just let it there for 1hr without any cmos or battery, i just olug the ac in and turn it on but thde screen still dark. I read many thread about oc but none talk anything about the memory frequency so i just tried by myself, and it was stupid
This time when i plug the ac in, the alienhead did show up and dom the falshing thing. But the screen still no sign of life -
Just connected to the external screen and nothingg is on. Both screen is black. Now im sure that it is not the screen. I only change the setting in the overclocking section of the bios, the memory frequency and fsb cant affect the screen, cant it? U guy have nay ideas what is wrong here. Im leaving in the dorm and im a internationak student so i orefer no to call dell but i will do it if i have to
-
Have you tried to reseat the display connector?
-
I didnt but im su the connector is fine because the screen hasnt turn on before i disassemble the computer, the screen went dead right after i click exit and save setting in ios
-
I would give tech support a call if you can't get the system functional. You paid for the warranty so you might as well use it. Dell should take care of the issue. If you have other memory sticks I would try that first.
-
My new memroy is coming, i think i can get one tomorrow. The system is funtioning, the fan is on, the key board is on, the diskdrive is still loading. If i call the tech support, what number should i call, can i chat with them instead?
-
I highly recommend you attempt to reattach the display connector. Without it attached properly it would act as you have discribed.
-
Ok, i will do it tonighht, thank you for ur help. I will update the info after. Thank you
-
Sounds good, and hope it works out. It should snap into place once it's attached properly.
-
It is the connectiion, i iust open and reconnect it, thank you guy. I will set the fsb at 1333 tohiz time
-
Gotta say told you so
-
Haha, thank you. I just hsve. Blue screen in boot up ho, im restoring the system now. Ill do a full clean up when i got my new harddrive and ram.
-
Start out low, going from 1066 to 1333MHz isn't going to be stable. Try 1250-1300, unlinked, and leave memory freq alone for now.
-
I set it at 1260 is it ok. The clock is at 2.99 right now, i think it is ok now. But i still have the problem when switching from single to dual gpu. It froze my computer everytimes. This happen recently, not before??? Have any idea?
-
-
I took the gpu out to clean it yesterday, i just discover that in the manage of the computer, there is no driver for the 2 GPU. I went on dell website and trying download the driver for these GPU. What driver version should i use and where can i download theme
-
just downloaded the drive for the gtx 260m on dell website. while installing it my computer forze. i have to restart it. Now i turn it on and when the screen come to the face login, it went black and only the mouse was on. I went to face mode and disable the driver then went into normal window again but cant install the driver and my computer froze almost immediately. Now i left it alone cause im a little bit . Can someone help me please. sry folks for so many problems
-
My computer is crazy now, i cant instal the nvidia driver on it, it start then froze and i have to use the startuo repair to store the co outer. Im pissed niow, what should i do?
-
Uninstall all GPU drivers, run CCleaner to clean the registry (run it a few times back to back) and run driver sweeper. Than start a new GPU driver install from scratch.
-
So can i just wait then change the hard drives, install new window and do all the driver again?
