Has anyone had any luck overclocking with Afterburner 2.2.3? I read a post by someone, somewhere that said they were able to do it, but it's giving me trouble.
If it's not possible, anyone have a good source for 2.2.1?
Thanks!

I assume that you have unlocked msi afterburner for overclocking the 7970m? If you haven't, you can use my guide (in sig) for detailed steps
Here is a link to 2.2.0 which is what i'm using:
MSI Afterburner 2.2.0 Beta 2 download from Guru3D.com -
Hey there, it is entirely possible to overclock the 7970m in v2.2.3
The problem is that after v2.2.1 the file named "atipdlxx.dll" is not included anymore.
Supposedly you can obtain this in the AMD driver version 12.4.
But easier you could simply save that file into another directory after installing MSI Afterburner v2.2.1
Instructions:
To overclock the 7970m in Afterburner v2.2.3
1) Install v2.2.1 and copy the file name "atipdlxx.dll" to another location - located in default C:\Program Files (x86)\MSI Afterburner
2) Update to v2.2.3 and move the file you just copy into the same install directory
3) Overclock should now be available
*Note after following slickdude's guide to unlocking unofficial overclocking ofcourse
Hope I helped.
Here's a link to v2.2.1 I found off Google

In order to OC, do you have to run on full discrete GPU mode (fn+f7), or can this be achievable on switchable graphics mode?

Thanks guys! +rep!

You can also install v2.2.1 (or 2.2.0) and just update it to 2.2.3. You then just need to change the afterburner.cfg file. I found that you just need to change the line "UnofficialOverclockingMode" from 0 to 1. No need to change "UnofficialOverclockingEULA".

for some reason i still cant get OC to work on the 7970m. I opened it using note pad, edited what it said and saved and still no go. Any suggestions?

Did you edit the registry files?

Following Slickdude's guide and Hellsfire's post in this thread, it works just fine for me, using Afterburner 2.2.3.

If you've editted the cfg and made the registry changes, it will work -
Well, i did everything exactly as in the guide, when i try to run MSI Afterburner after this, my system freezes, and all i can do is hold the power button.
I have R2, and 12.6 official drivers, card is from eurocom
any ideas :?? -

Hey guys
I've got MSI up and running, but as soon as I change a clock (even by 1mhz) my screen goes a bit crazy.
Have I done something wrong or is my card Unclockable lol? -
@lilsancho
What drivers are you running? I find that any overclock on the latest dell drivers on my 7970m would make the screen flicker - but it goes away after it has been under load (games, 3dmark etc.)
Regular web browsing i just set it back to stock clocks so it doesn't do the crazy flickering. I guess there is some issue with the 2d voltage :/
But yeah the first dell drivers work fine for me, 12.5beta did too, 12.7beta has a little flickering here and there but pretty rare.
Never tried official 12.6 (heard no flickering), or the latest 12.8 either. -
ok so there was a duplicate and i deleted it. it is saved as a .cfg file. I didnt mess with the registry because i have an R4. I thought you didnt need to with an R4? Lastly, why do we need to jump through these hoops to get OC to work. Never had that problem with any other GPUs. Thanks

Well if it's a normal occurrence then I'm happy, I was worried that it was gonna kill my card
Just curious tho, are you able to run the official AMD drivers? When I've tried the setup says it can't find my card. -
**Update**
Just tried overclocking via VBios flash and eveything is working perfectly! -
Hey guys! I have a question, is it just me when whenever I put in a specific clock speed it just goes back to 1 point lower clock speed? For example, I would like my clock speed to be exact 950, but the Afterburner just puts it back to 949. I know it's not a big deal but it kinda bothers me. :S

let me knw how it goes

Sorry for bringing up a dead thread, but are the steps in SlickDude's guide applicable to the M17x R4? I'm expecting to have it in the mail any day now, so I'm preparing to overclock it's 7970m as soon as I get it.
Overclocking 7970M with MSI Afterburner 2.2.3 or where can I find 2.2.1?
