hey M17X owners , :) i'm here to ask about OC'ed my GPU of my M17-R3 ( to increase performance while gaming ofc ). Well what's the different about OC'ed in the Boot Menu and OC'ed the card with some software like MSI afterburner, Nvidia Inspector, Evga prec and such? i'm new to overclocking thing, all i know is just increase = better performs :D, I mean, is it safe to OC'ed my M17X R3 with those overclock programs, thanks..

Yea it's safe. Since you can't change the voltage, the worst that will happen is the system will crash it the clocks are unstable because they don't have enough voltage. Keep an eye on temps, but in reality, I doubt temps are going to be an issue or limiting factor.

Overclocking in the system Bios is for overclocking the CPU.

Overclocking through Sapphire Trixx, EVGA, MSI ect are all GPU overclocking tools.

edit: darn, Dr650SE beat me to it.

The cpu is also overclockable, but it's (in my point of view) a complete waste of time and effort since the performance increase is extremely minuscule.

oh, so.. system bios is for the CPU.. thanks, i thought it was for both :D , for GPU currently i used Nvidia Inspector to OC'ed it.. and i used a good Cooler too.. so my laptop won't heat :), but the problem is, My M17X-R3 GPU is broken now.. it got smoked when i just used it for daily things ( browsing ) not gaming  that was really weird, and it makes me upset.. not even hit 4 weeks of use but a problem already encounter.. the Tech told me that my GPU is Scorched, and it will be replaced with the Warranty.. i bet the GPU is Defective??

depends on the GPU. 460m is worth overclocking because you can easily get a 5fps increase by increasing the speed a bit ;) never got higher temps or anything.

i used MSI Afterburner to overclock a 460m. Its perfectly safe. if you push it too hard, it will bsod or freeze. You really have to experiment as to what the maximum is for your card....and then lessen it for everyday.

it's okay, i think that Guide will help me out, since i'm about to upgrading my 560m to 580m.. my 560M card got smoked and broken.. i hope it will be replaced with something better but ( Nvidia cards only ) since mine is M17X-R3 3D version..

i tried OC'ed as high as i can with MSI after burner on my Asus G74SX-A1 ( haven't tried it on my M17X-R3 ( since the card just got broken )

    940/1500/1800 or 860/1625/1720..
i know it's not that high but that's enough for my 560M :)

wonder what vantage score you get with that clock speed and how it compares to a 460m overclocked ;)

Your limiting factors aren't clocks above 940 anyway so no point in pushing further except bragging rights. The 1-2 extra FPS aren't worth periodic crashes. But you could likely go a little higher ;) before you hit the line of stability vs the max.
