    Hey guys.

I'm interested in pushing my new m17x a little bit. I've never attempted overclocking before, and would like to know where I should start.

Are there any precautions I should take first however? It would be tragic to permanently damage a brand new machine...

can you do some benchmarking like 3dmark11 and 3dmarkvantage. we have the same specs. we'll be nice to compare :D

with regards to overclocking, you can use sapphire trixx to overclock your gpu. In my opinion, OC is safe but do so at your own risk :) i can overclock mine up to 820/1100. when i do 850/1100, it crashed. Good luck!

Its not that easy to break these things if it gets too hot it will throttle. It may lockup and force a reboot. The only time I lost hardware (motherboard) was because of insufficient condensation protection on a chilled water config. CPU, memory and everything else was fine. Your not going to be able to do much with voltages on this laptop either so your pretty safe.

Yeah, but it'll have to wait until I can get home tonight-- silly me decided to leave it at home today.

I have overclocked since people modified the voltage coming from the power supply. That was when boards actually melted. Today, barring a temp sensor failure, most hardware shuts down when it gets anywhere close to overheated. Safe operating temps are far above what you would expect.
