so i am the proud new owner of a 2630 with an amd 6870 in it. it appears that ati overdrive is not enabled, which i really just want to use to increase the normal fan speed on the gpu since it gets a little toasty. wondering what program is the best for this and asking you guys because i have seen some great threads in this forum already.

Well how toasty? Overdrive cannot control laptop fans because they are not paired with the GPU. The motherboard EC controls it based on what the temperature readings are. You can download HWInfo64, run it Sensor Only, click on the little fan symbol on the bottom. Set.

You can also increase the fan speed in Sapphire Trixx

you were able to adjust fan speed with trixx? no matter what I do with that slider in trixx nothing happens.

I can adjust the fans in HWinfo 64 though, so it's not that the bios is necessarily overriding things.

If I use the "fixed" fan mode, and just drag the fan speed to max, it doesn't speed up the fan at all.

If in HWinfo64, I use the manual override and set it to max it's very clear that it actually did something as a jet engine spools up from the back of the machine ;-)

As for under load, if i leave enverything in automatic, sure they speed up under load as that's controlled by the bios. I just cant see that TRixx is actually changing the fans in any way.

My theory is that it's designed to talk to fans on desktop discrete gpu boards, while the fan in the m17 isn't controled by the vid card, it's still controlled by the motherboard, hence hwinfo96 working fine.
