I'm struggling for hours. Here's the problem I'm having:

    1. I was baffled at unusually-low Skyrim fps, so I decided to update driver (for the first time with Alienware m17x).

    2. Since I couldn't download the driver using AMD website, I went to ATi Mobility Catalyst 11.10 Display Drivers For Notebooks (31/10/2011), followed the exact instruction.

    3. Express uninstall, restart, driver sweeper, restart, and then ATI Catalyst Mobility 11.10 for Win7 64-bit.

    4. When installing ATI Catalyst Mobility 11.10, at the end of the installation, displays "Warnings occured during installation," with a yellow question mark in that circle.

    5. Now, restarted, the screen looks like Windows 98.

    6. Done that several times, now used this: Ati 6990 driver update , same result.

    7. In device manager, when clicking HD6990M, displays 'Windows cannot verify the digital signature for the drivers required for this device. A recent hardware or software change might have installed a file that is signed incorrectly or damaged, or that might be malicious software from an unknown source. (Code 52)' in device status.

    8. When attempting to open CCC, displays 'CCC cannot be started. There are currently no settings that can be configured using CCC'.

BTW I got my M17X on early September.

This is eating up my disk space little by little. After supposedly installing the whole thing (I tried installing just the driver in the first link, just in the second link, both at a same time, installing Dell's driver first), when clicked Catalyst Control Center, displays 'CCC cannot be started. There are currently no settings that can be configured using Catalyst Control Center.'

I tried every methods that were given by users so far, searched google for hours...

When computer boots up, a warning pops up 'no amd graphics driver is installed, or the amd driver is not functioning.'

When I go to device manager, it says the driver is working properly, even though it's not, with a correct driver version (8.902.0.0). However, Intel(R) HD Graphics Family has a warning exclamation mark next to it, saying Windows has stopped this device because it has reported problems. (Code 43)

TO DESCRIBE MY SITUATION A LITTLE BIT MORE, everything on screen looks real big (compared to 1920x1080 original). Best screen resolution is 1200 x 1084. Everything else but graphics work fine.

I'm seriously wondering if this is unfixable. Does anybody have a real, proven answer to this problem?

Please understand my frustration...I was so misinformed (WHY IS THIS SO COMPLICATING..I CAN INSTALL DRIVER IN MY OLD PC in less than 1 MINUTE!!!) and I certainly could not have imagined this destructive consequence. I have been spent my saturday-sunday afternoon-evening-night trying to fix this crap...

Can someone also give me a detailed instruction on how to install a 6990M driver?

All this happened cuz I'm a newb at new tech...and because I have that 'minus'-touch.

As I posted in another thread

This is kind of a last resort option as you have to format/reinstall Windows (clean install), but if you have the time/experience you should really give it a try.

I don't have any experience...The only big problem I ran into with any of the PCs I owned is big spyware/pop-up problems with my old PC. I never had to format/reinstall Windows...but if that's the only option, I guess I'll have to do it...Can you tell me an instruction?

just run the CCC express installer.

    Select uninstall. Uninstall your drivers.

    Restart.

Rerun CCC installer, and install the drivers.

    Restart.

    Done!

If this wont work for you there are more detailed instructions involving uninstalling, running your system in safe mode etc... But since you are having trouble with something as basic as driver installation I'd suggest just sticking with the instructions I posted above.

Yes try the other methods people are suggesting, as if you have no experience formatting your pc then it can make things much more complicated.

Ok. I hadn't updated my drivers after I got my SSD, but this thread and the ongoing threads pretty much prompted me to expedite the driver install :p

So, here is what I am working with:

Clean install of Win 7 with all of the latest available Dell drivers installed (including the Dell 6990M driver).

I downloaded the file that has been linked in several threads at -
    http://www2.ati.com/DriVeRs/mobile/11-10_mobility_vista_win7_64_dd_ccc_ocl.exe

Run that file. Choose Express Install.
    Screen flickers...flickers...BSOD!
PC reboots. The resolution is wrong because the driver isin't fully functional.
Go into the folder that the driver extracted to (should be c:\ATI\support\11-10_mobility_vista_win7_64_dd_ccc_ocl) and run the setup.exe
Go back through the wizard, Choose Express Install, it will finish this time.
    Reboot
Resolution is still wrong. Open Device Manager, click the + next to Display Adapters, right click on the Intel HD Display Driver and choose Uninstall.
    Reboot
The PC should reinstall the Intel HD Display Driver, but it will show that the driver install failed.
Go back into Device Manager, go back to the Intel HD Display Driver, and right click it and go to properties. It should say that the PC needs to be restarted. Restart the computer.
When the PC boots back up, your resolution should be correct, and both drivers in device manager should be functional without exclamation marks.

Also, I made sure to enable Windows Updates on Drivers prior to doing this, so I would check that first. I dont think it's necessary, but with the problems that you're having, it may help to mimic my steps.

    Best of luck~
