Howdy all. Been a while since I've posted in here. Wanted people's opinion on if my M17x R2's PSU is failing. Dell gave me this replacement PSU about 4 years ago. Hasn't given me any trouble until now. Lately my screen will flash that it's gone to battery power and that my PSU has disconnected. Then it reconnects to the PSU about 3 seconds later. Does it when it's sitting idle or "under load". The cords and plus don't appear to be loose, so I'm at a loss of what could be the issue or what I can test.

    Suggestions?

You'd need another power supply ideally. It doesn't have to be the exact same wattage, so if you know someone with a Dell PSU that is in the 180 W + range and hook it up. You might a message that the PSU is a bit anemic and there would be throttling of sorts, but that's not the behavior you're looking for, so it should work.

I wonder if the 180w PSU sold on Amazon (allegedly by Dell) would work?

Even if ti doesn't and it's something like the pwoer jack, having more than one power supply is kinda nifty, no need to carry it around all the time or if you say forget it at the office you ave a spare.

True. If it's the power jack, I'm wondering if I can get one of those and solder it to the board...

Interestingly enough, I did a full cleaning and repasting of my R2. Including cleaning the female contacts on the battery and male battery contacts on the motherboard with a nylon bristle brush. Afterwards, the power adapter message has only happened twice. The PSU still might be going bad, but it's surprising that cleaning the battery contacts had lessened the error message significantly.

Welp, I got my replacement PSU. Haven't had a power adapter error message in 4 days.

BUT...I got a BSOD about an hour ago. Can't figure out what it was because the mini dump files aren't present (or Blue Screen Viewer can't find them). CHKDSK may have erased them when it ran on the restart.

Wish I knew what had crashed. :vbfrown:
