    So I'm updating my m17x R2 and the last step will be the GPU. But until that happens I have 2 ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5870 set im crossfire.

    Since I got an SSD and did a fresh install, I'm having problema with really low FPS (by low I mean it can get as bad a 6-10 fps) in some games. The worse currently is Tera Online. It's a fresh install so I have all the latest drivers.

    Anyone have any ideia on whats hapenning?

    My current specs:
    2 Mobility Radeon HD 5870 CrossFire
    940XM processor
    16gb Ram
    OCZ SSD VERTEX 4 256GB SATA III

    ty all for the help

    Is the poor performance consistent across all games?

    With the 5870s I'm increasingly noticing that I have I had to make some concessions on advanced graphics settings for adequate performance. i.e. No shadows, general medium-high settings as opposed to ultra etc.

    Incidentally, Tera which you specifically mentioned - has a shockingly optimised GUI. If you press CTRL+Z to turn off the GUI you should see FPS shoot right up (CTRL+Z again - twice maybe - to turn your GUI back on).

    I'm assuming you checked some of these things already but just in case - most up to date drivers (from AMD not Dell), crossfire enabled, stealth mode not accidentally turned on, playing while plugged into a power outlet. etc.

    Did you have better performance immediately before the HDD upgrade? Maybe it's worth swapping your old HDD back in for comparison. They're the things I'd check first.

    Well I played the game before I swaped and had no problems like this....i can sometimes get like 2-3 fps :S but the game is not installed in the SSD but on the old HDD.

    For Tera, I did some testing and disabled crossfire and ran the game. I lost graphics quality but gain FPS (albeit it being very inconsistent; I could rock 80fps and on the next second I would have 8 fps) and that strikes me as odd. I havent tried the CTRL + Z actually and will give it a go.

    As for other games, I havent played anything besides MMO for some time. I played swtor without problems but I have been having similar issues in Final Fantasy A Realm Reborn beta (with FF ARR I had these issued before the fresh install). I Dont know what to do :(

    Only other thing I can suggest is tweaking the specific video settings in-game via: ESC, Options, (O) Options, Video.

    I'd start with turning everything down to 1 and incrementing by 1 and choosing Apply. Hopefully that will allow you to identify the things that start to impact your performance - I generally find shadows put the 5870s under a bit more strain.

    Incidentally, I'd recommend setting the following in the S1Engine.ini file (ensure you edit with administrator rights so it saves the file correctly)

    DepthOfField=false
    UseHighQualityBloom=false

    Try a clean installation of the video driver, make sure you completely remove all traces of your current driver (clean up your registry too, you can use driver sweeper or manually delete all entries). Restart and check your device manager until you see "Standard VGA adapter" under display adapters.

    When that's done, download and install Dell | AMD Mobility Radeon HD5870 driver.

    Download Dell | AMD Mobility Radeon HD5870 vBIOS, you'll need a blank CD to install the vBIOS. **You need to be running Dell's driver in order to flash the vBIOS.

    Well I dont know what to say....I've been playing tera with no problems at all :S Without doing nothing, the fps are stable now and lowering the graphics quality makes the fps go up (that didnt happen before). So I must have been a problem on their side but whats wierd is there was no update.

    Anyway thank for the help ^^

    P.S - My vBIOS it already up to date and I did try those drivers before reverting again and still that didnt work.
