Hello, new to the forum, i have a problem with my alienware 17, have been asking in many forums but still cant find a fix, Seem like my laptop will Run some games very good and others very poor, i can run game like witcher 2, borderlands 2, dead space 3 with high setting with good FPS, but some games like saints row 4 and battlefield 4 will run very poorly even in Low settings. geforce experience will setup most games to run in high and ultra settings but bf4, sr4 in low settings wich dosnt make sence  . I do have the lastest drivers of nvidia, i have tryed to run the game forcing them to use the nvidia card but still no luck :S. Hope someone can help.

    Specs:
    Win 8
    Intel core i7-4700 mq @ 2.4,2.4
    Nvidia Geforce 765m
    8 gb ram

You're using the latest driver, 331.65?

    Yes and windows is updated.

Edit: I should Add that games like Saint row the third will also run very bad even in low settings BUT if i play the game with directx9 instead of 10 or 11 it will run way better and very smooth. Dont know if this is relevant. Maybe a problem with direct x 10 and 11 but not sure.

Hi, DX9 will remove a lot of the stress on the card and it should fly (even on the iGPU) so that's not a lot of help for you. It does sound like it could be selecting the wrong GPU for some games but since I do not have that facility (120hz model has the iGPU disabled) I'm no help there. And you say you know how to force it anyway ;)

I'd try the latest NV driver dell published about a week ago - possibly due to BF4 requiring a later driver. It is earlier than the one you are using but every driver since 314.22 has had problems including atrocious FPS in some games, BF4 being the most complained about.

    Good luck ;)

I see you're trying to work out if your 765M is performing at the right levels in games, I've got just the link for you, have a look at this:

    NVIDIA GeForce GTX 765M - NotebookCheck.net Tech

This shows you the framerates that you can expect with a 765M in all the major games. Have a look at that link & compare it to the results you're getting. Then if you're still not getting the performance you should get, then maybe post back here.

Try to manually set Nvidia GPU for those games. This picture is in Russian but should get what to do.

Some games with the new posted dell driver, do not care regardless if you tell the control panel to force the dedicated gpu. It still uses integrated. This happens in bioshock infinite. I can test this because I monitor gnu activity with hwinfo etc.

Hello again, yes i have setup the game (sr4 and bf4) to run with the Nvidia gpu, here a Screenshot , But it looks like the game is still running from the intel chip because im gettin around 5 Fps in low settings or any setting. i Found strange that some games will do run from the nvidia gpu and others wont, Even more strange is the Geforce exp will setup some games on ultra and high settings and other in low settings  ,.

Btw is it normal for DXdiag to detect the intel chip in the display tab instead of the nvidia card?

Just an idea, does the hotkey Fn-F7, I/D GFX, followed by a reboot turn off the iGPU? Not a fix but maybe a workaround?

This is a workaround, and does work. However the issue is driver related :\

Edit* Also this issue is resolved for me at least with the latest nvidia drivers.

    Update

I told Saints Row 4 to run with the integrated intel chip a now i can actually play it decently in medium. Around 20 fps. So im now totally confused, i think the game it was actually running from the nvidia video card, but still dont understand the bad performance with the 765m.
