wow, like the refined design.
-
oh god, what are the spec like? GTX580M in SLI
It just look awesome!!!
-
What are he specs of that laptop running those benchmarks please ?
so far I noticed
GTX460
i7 2820QM
4GB Ram -

Dang, 16k in 2006 off integrated graphics!
-
Speedy Gonzalez Xtreme Notebook Speeder!
Nice thanks you guys think the screen is 16:10 ?
-
OH wow. The design is not that different but definitely better.
But the new CPU's and 460 sli! me wants. -
I wouldn't call it better design but new look is always welcome... and that bigger touch pad is great... does it look a tad bit slimmer to you guys?? and where is the express card slot??
-
Doesn't look differant enough for me to want it. CPU scores look nice though.
-
It looks like it's a bit thinner (I don't see the rear vents on the side anymore) and no express card slot. I wouldn't say the design is better either, just different. It still looks to be a 16:10 design from the photos. I wonder what changes they made to the cooling? -
Speedy Gonzalez Xtreme Notebook Speeder!
why would Dell stick with 16:10 ratio if all the manufacturers are pointing different route ? just wonder
also they should remove the glass from the screen or at least give the buyer the option to pick a matte screen for the rest i thing it looks ok pretty much like the last model -
Couple reasons:
1. 16:10 is the only one that has the rgb led option as of right now.
2. 16:10 gives you more screen real estate than 16:9
That's assuming this new system is still 16:10 which it looks to be. The cooling looks like it got an overhaul as well, that's what I'm most curious about. I'd be curious to see if they went the vapor heatpipe route. And yeah, they should give the option of not having the E2E portion.
Edit: Looking over the pictures again, the screen doesn't seem to have much of a red shift to it. Maybe it's no longer 16:10/rgb led? So many questions.. -
Wow.. how did it get 16k 3DMark06 on integrated graphics?
-
ha I get why it looks slim... the aluminum (if it is) shell doesnt go around the bottom...

It's fitting that the one thing I was hoping for is omitted from being revealed by these pictures (a place to grip the screen while opening it, as seen in the m11x and m15x). there's always fingerprints where my webcam is because of this >_<
also, I'm not feeling the look of the touchpanel, though they do look more spaced out, which would help with the accuracy of the touch.
as far as the touchpad and that whole panel is concerned... i wonder if it could be added to our current m17x r1 and 2's... a better, bigger touchpad and cooler looking speaker grills couldn't hurt! -
1st one:
Probably a single GTX 460m + Nvidia Optimus
i7-2630qm
4GB RAM
15940 3Dmarks
2nd one:
Probably a single Radeon HD 6970m
i7-2720qm
4GB RAM
20155 3Dmarks
3rd one:
Single GTX 460m
i7-2820qm
4GB RAM
16957 3Dmarks -

Nice refresh!
Hopefully, Dell offers a matte screen option this time.
Also, the 20k 06 score seems low on the GPU side, unless it's a single card. -
Speedy Gonzalez Xtreme Notebook Speeder!
i would like to see the lid they may add some lines like the M11X and that could be nice too -
the day I get my R2, we hear about this. I think I'll sell it already
-
I don't see an express card slot either.
-
Anyways, if that's what the M15x R3 looks like... And if It has 2xHDD bays. I WANT IT.
Touchpad lighting also seems, different. Maybe they also used better lights or more transparent material in the lighting system? -

If anything, the new design looks more alien-y.
-
@Above, I agree! Looks less of a Lambo and more like something "out of this world" lol.
Edit: The touch sensitive buttons at top, does the strip look like brushed aluminium to anyone else or is it jus tme? -
-
The exhaust certainly has changed and even the overall shape from the backend looks different..

Awesome R3 there..
the design is not my taste btw..
but the performance raww..... -
Looking at the picture, it's definitely still an aluminium chassis. The thickness of the red frame corresponds to the metal chassis and not a plastic one so that would be good news.
The screen does not look RGB as Joker mentions but there is a film on top of the screen that has not been removed and with the effect of taking a picture that could easily dull the colors enough for us to not know the difference from those pics.
I love the refreshed design, too bad no pics of the back are shown or the bottom this would have helped us understand the difference in cooling. Also the audio plugs are now on the left side. -
yea more alieny is a good thing! umm...is there usb 3.0 in there, i cant tell I dont see any.
Once they throw in an extream sandybridge cpu and duel 6900's were going to see 30k in 3dmark06 lol. That will be exciting.
As much as I like the design alienware has nothing to do with muscle cars so why design a laptop around it? I think making the machine look less like a car is a good thing and hope they completely redesign the case sooner then later. -
Now the next question when does it arrive on Dells Site ?
-
The bigger touchpad is nice but after looking at the frontal view again, I don't like the new grill design at all nor do I think the control cover with the alien design looks nice--bit too kiddy looking. So far I think the R1/R2 look nicer but we all know that it's whats inside that counts. I'm super curious about the cooling they employed. If the design is 16:9, we'll probably see a standard WLED and/or B+RG like the XPS series have. Both are okay but not as good as RGB LED.
-
Exactly! The media buttons look out of place and doesn't quite integrate into the overall design. Even I prefer the R2 design.
-
Yeah I guess I agree too about the buttons but it won't matter as long as the cooling and performance are there. On the other hand if the screen is 16:9 I am not going to be happy.
Wonder when they are going to release it though. -
I like it. wheres the M15x ??? -
The new touch panel looks like the Gateway FX model

Wow, looks awesome!! Like the little details they added/changed.
-
I have to say I kind of like the look. It's awfully tempting to 'trade up' for my M15X that has a bad BIOS, once I get back to the islands.
-
Is there a display port? I'm not seeing one, unless they put it on the opposite side as the others which would be kinda silly. If it doesn't have one that would suck for eyefinity users.
-
Can't wait, hu,hu,hu lol

How certain is it that the notebook isn't an M15x?
The numpad would be the most obvious thing pointing to a M17x but it's not impossible to add one to a new 15.6" design....many other 15.6" notebooks have one. My first impression of the images was that the larger touchpad made the keyboard look different (more tightly spaced) than the original M17x...but it's also possible that the touchpad only looks larger because it's a 15.6" chassis.
I can say one thing I'm almost sure it's definitely not a 16:9 17.3" chassis....there would be more space to the left and right of the keyboard. -
I tried to use ratios on photoshop from the screen shown in the pics and the one on my M17X and I am 90% sure that the screen is 16:10. The ratios do not seem to match 16:9 but again I cannot be 100% sure.
-
Hey dajohu. What else could it be if not a display port?
Pics for M17xR3(Sandybridge) and benchmark(you may wanna c)
