I know alot of people think that the M17x isn't appropriate in a business setting and decide to go with HP Envy or other Dell laptops, But surprisingly, I'm pretty pleased with the look and feel of the Alienware M17xR3. I think the ability to go "dark" and the smaller/lighters size compared to R1/R2 does make a difference:

Honestly it makes that boring conference room seem 100x more interesting with the R3 sitting there. All those people that claim they'd be "embarrassed" of having an Alienware in a conference room are likely pre-teen kids living in their mom's basement defending their purchase.

I regularly take my R2 with me wherever I travel. Last time I had a med conference in October in Atlanta and I took it with me there and nobody gave any weird looks--if anything they commented that it was awesome.

I think all Alienware(not including legacy systems) look amazing in any business enviornment.

The nice thing about owning an Alienware with FX lighting is that anyone who see's you with one will most likely not challenge you when it comes to IT related topics. Especially if their sportin a Dell, MBP, Toshiba or HP...lol.....I know I wouldn't.

I think you should whip out the 3d model version and then take out the glasses and wear them during the meeting, it'll be much more interesting this way. We also need to see pics of this to further understand the setting and scenario.

I am guessing a raise may also be a possibility when doing this.

I use mine at work. Everyone always wants to know what kind of computer is that. I think it looks good in any environment, including business. I also think that the new design is more pleasing to the average eye than the previous one was. Where as the previous one looked like a power house, that was always angry, this one has softer lines and look more in line with today's more stylish laptop offerings.

The R2 is like an R3 that lost weight, then bought some new clothes really. :D I don't think the R2 looks angry , but mean  not angry though. lol

"Tony Stark" it and take over their screens :D

cool to see the alienware in this setting. i always thought they could advertise to the business class by showing a pic of a bunch of buniess looking laptops (thinkpad, some hp, some dell, etc) lined up, with an R3 randomly stuck in there with it's red lid ;) with a caption of like "Bend Over Boys" lol

I soooo agree with you on this!!

Everyone here(including myself) is so spoiled!! Remember the first time you saw an M17x R1/R2?

I remember when I had my G73JH and saw joker5150's posts...and then finally taking the plunge.....upon my unboxing I was like ***** ****!! This things amazing!! The packaging, the manual(especially the manual), the cap, the sticker & mouse pad(I have a Razer Vespula so mine will remain wrapped).

After time you get use to all of this and start to take it for granted. My workplace is full of Dell's, MPB's, VAIO's, HP's, a few G73JH's, My R2 and a R3(6970). Most Mac owners at my place of employement are full of jealousy & rage when my R2 is once again receiving compliments. The guy at my job with the R3 also gives props saying that if he could have gone R2 he would have because of build quality. I return compliments by saying; atleast you don't have to deal with lousy Crytek/EA Dev Xrossfire support.

That's something that really turns me off of the dual gpu setup.

Though, with the amount of power the speculated m18x will be packing, I dont think anyone will be complaining about what they have to do to get the most out of it.

I love CF when it works as it should. After updating to 11.3, 11.3 CAP2 & downloading Crysis2AdvancedGraphicsOptions1_7...the only game(Crysis 2 CF flickering) that gave me a problem runs fantastic with no problems! But it is annoying at first for a game to not properly support CF. I'll most likely upgrade to a M18x if I don't buy a Mitsubishi EVO.

That looks nice on that table!! I stil have that same laptop bag sitting in my closet as well. I'd bring my M17xR3 to work but first it has to be delivered and then I'd have to get it through security and lastly it would consume all the space on my desk. So I'll just leave it home. lol.

Depending on the introductory prices on the 18x, I'll definitely consider it. I could always sell my R3. It would be really nice if they brought back the RGB, and Aluminum chassis, though I doubt they will. We'll just have to wait and see I suppose.

Would love to do this one day :) :D

I still don't know why people are attracted to Macs besides the long battery life and metal body. My boss today, was bragging about how long the battery life of her Mac was. Was so tempted to say "but what can you do in those 7 hours?," and "why would you be on fb or youtube for 7 hours?"

I hope I don't offend anyone by saying this but...I found a lot of similarities between MBP owners and Volkswagen/Audi Owners. Don't get me wrong Volks & Audi's are nice cars(Especially S4, S5, GTI, R32 etc.), but the people who I often find to drive them own MBP's and suffer from a superiority complex....like their excluded from takin out the garbage.

I have a friend that has a S4 and I have a friend that has a EVO X(My next car). My friend with the S4 would always act like his car was better than the EVO X because it has German ingenuity.

About 3 months ago another friend of ours, was telling me about how he was riding shotgun in the Audi S4 when my 2 friends went all out on the highway.
My friend said that the S4 got smoked and it was like everytime that the EVO X turbo engaded was like a 2 car length difference gain....lmmfao.

Now when we mention the S4's defeat my S4 friend's argument is that the S4 wasn't designed primarily for performance...lol...Then W*F was is designed for?
He also owns a MBP and keeps it close to his heart :p

I think it's reasonable to compare these 2 cars because...both of these "4 door sedans" come from a long history of World Rally Championship Heritage, have AWD and offer a turbo charger.

My Jeep Wrangler is better than any car! And it really wasn't primarily designed for performance. :D

I'll be about 1/2 mile from Apple next week in Cupertino. I'd like to put on a penguin suit and pee on their lawn. ;) Macs are fine. I tell all my friends that are not and will never be the least bit computer savvy to get one.

    I've always like the wrangler.
I think the Alienware Orion Messenger bag can fit in most business settings because of its black on black(especially if those swiss army bags can). The only downside is that the padding is a little lacking under the laptop compartment...its not too bad...I'd just think twice before dropping it down on one of those concreate parking blocks. Alot of people see the Alien logo on my bag and say "you don't really have a AW laptop?" It makes for a interesting conversation piece.

lol...that was too funny. A year ago I owned a MBP because a friend of mine sold it to me brand new for about 75% off the MSRP. After trying to play MW2 on it and being seriously dissapointed I checked on Craigslist to see what I could get for it. I sold that MBP to this mactard for 2100.00USD.

To this day I could not believe that someone would pay that much for old tech.

This is hilarious lolz. I do like the fact that our R3s have long enough batteries to conduct full on powerpoint presentations without the hassle of finding plugs. I hate having to dangle wires across the conference tables.

Besides metal and long battery life, what do they have? Plus the metal gets hot from all the heating issues :D

I was recently at an expo in Dubai and we used my M17x R2 hooked up to a large plasma display to play drift racing videos that I had on my HDD.

Many clients mentioned that my red M17X with the lid closed looked like a Ferrari :D

In a Expo setting, the M17X is built to impress for sure.

That's absolutely awesome, although if I had a large plasma on display I'd probably load up some mmorpg's or FPS's =P

What about the black m17x's, anyone got photos of these ones in business environments/public places?
