I do not have an R2 any more and I am relying on memory...

Installing the Intel Chipset driver usually helps resolve the media card reader not being recognized. If you have not already done so, reinstall the Intel Chipset driver. With no driver installed, the media card reader may appear in Device Manager as "Base System Device" and you may see more than one device with that same name, and all are the reader.

I'm glad I could be helpful. Our difference in time zones probably was not good for you, but I tried to watch for your questions and reply quickly. I am glad I helped you learn new things.

When you find people are helpful, you can add to their forum reputation by clicking on the scale icon. You can only give out so much rep in a day, and you have to spread it around. I am glad you found the forum also. Yes, the Ricoh devices are definitely the card reader. It looks like the driver installation worked. What makes you say something is wrong with the card reader? In the screen shot you posted the devices don't seem to be showing any faults like "disabled" or "unable to start" so you should be good to go.

Have a good day. I'll check on the thread again tonight.

When you plug in a memory card do you get any kind of an error message?

That's so odd that Device Manager shows it working, but it does not work. I'm not sure what the problem could be right now.

If there is any way you can afford it, call Alienware and extend your warranty for a year. If they let you, (and there is a very good chance they will,) then you can call their Tech Support and get assistance after purchasing the extended warranty. If it turns out that parts are bad, they fix it for you at no cost over and above the warranty. In my opinion, with a laptop as expensive as these are, it's worth every penny. I works out to about $1 (USD) per day.

But if i extend the warranty and dell know there's an issue with my memory card reader initially, will they still fix it, Mr. Fox..?

actually, i indeed wanna extend my warranty, but sometimes it just feels like warranty policy always sucks (usually)..but i've never tried Dell one..

Are there any special rules or regulations that i should follow or do before i extend my warranty, Mr. Fox..?

No, just log into your profile at support.dell.com and you'll find a link to extend your warranty, or you can can 1-800-ALIENWARE and do it by phone. (I assume this number works where you are.) Dell/Alienware have an awesome warranty. I generally do not go for extended warranties and feel they are a waste of money, but theirs is so worth it... One of the reasons I am a Dell/Alienware customer is because their warranty service and technical support is better than any of their competitors. (This is especially true with the Alienware product line.)

I doubt there is something wrong with your hardware if it was working fine before you tried the clean install. One that basis, I would leave it to your discretion what should be shared when you extend your warranty, should you be asked. It's probably a very simple fix, but it is difficult to tell exchanging posts on a forum and it's even harder for me to offer advice since I no longer own an R2. If your system is working great otherwise, you'll have plenty of time to call technical support for assistance on the card reader while the extended warranty is in effect.

Is the warranty extension offered for limited time only, Mr. Fox..? I mean, i might could have warranty extension offer from Dell right now, but not 6 months later or so..??

Um..actually, i don't mind to just use portable memory card reader for a period of time as long as my r2 works fine..what do you think, Mr. Fox..? should i just go for warranty extension or just use external MC reader..? kinda dilemma for me..lol..

Btw..aAlienFX..will the light spoilt if we turn it on for a long period, Mr. Fox..? Coz sometimes i get scared, so i always turn it off most of the time..haha..

If I were in your shoes I would get the extended warranty immediately if they will sell it to you. If you wait for too long after your warranty is expired, they might not offer it. If you wait until something is seriously wrong with your machine it might be considered unethical to purchase the warranty, so I would get it right away.

I leave my lighting system on at all times and there are no problems. If you have a warranty, you don't have to worry about things like that... just enjoy owning the machine and using it as Alienware intended.

It depends on what warranty you buy. Purchase the "Complete Care" warranty and it include next business day in-home service and accidental damage coverage. Be sure to tell the person you are talking with those are the feature that what you want. You do not want the type of warranty where you have to send your system to the repair depot. That's no good.

oh..that kinda warranty exist..? wow!..cool..haha..i've never ever read the extension dell warranty yet..

okay..i will purchase it then..i should need one..haha..

btw..just wondering..could the price be lower if i buy the warranty via telephone rather than online, Mr. Fox..? coz so many people got discounted when they bought the system via telephone..and im the one who dumb enough to buy it from online..

With Alienware you may have to buy it by phone. I believe the link on the support page will display a phone number you have to call if you have an Alienware. I don't know if the price on the warranty is negotiable without a hardware purchase, but I would recommend calling them over doing it online anyway.
