I have an alienware m17x r3 on hold for 24 hours from dell outlet. Here is what it has:

    i7 2670qm (2.2ghz)
    amd radeon hd 6990m
    2x 750GB 7200rpm hds
    Wide FHD 1080p screen
    16GB dual channel DDR3 RAM (1600mhz)
    64bit windows ultimate
    bluetooth

this is all for around $1450....the system's history involved being ordered during Feb from customer and returned within 21 days. The customer said something about how the battery wasnt charging the computer enough or something to do with the battery power..idk, the rep sounded like she didnt really know what the issue was. They exchanged it for him and now this one is on outlet. Is it ok to buy? I need to know asap whether or not to buy since today is the only day for that price!

They test all the products that come through the outlet. That's why they are called "refurbished". Worst case scenario, if it does have issues once you get it, call them and they will come and fix it. It's a pretty good price, I would go for it.

You'd be crazy not to take it... and as blink said, if you run into any issues dell will send someone out to fix them :D

all tech breaks :p but that is cheap compared to what others have paid for their rigs with similar specs :) so you mustn't not feel bad. I paid well over 3k for my first rig :( I wish I could have gotten your deal and upgrade little stuff if I fancied it :) Wayyyyyy cheaper and smarter. You got a good deal.

craig, congratz on the new laptop...don't feel bad...feel good :D

The m17x is the ultimate laptop as far as i'm concerned. You pay a slight premium compared to the cheaper MSI's etc...but when you open that box, you'll understand why it's all worth it :)

A new dilemma approaches. I can get the deal Coolblue showed earlier:

    1 750GB 7200rpm
    amd hd 6990
    1080p screen
    4GB RAM

for $1468, this is BRAND NEW. The one i linked above is refurbished.

Keep my refurbished or cancel it for the NEW one?

the refurb has an extra 750gb hdd
    killer wireless
    16GB RAM
and the WF HD 1080p screen (a step above the regular 1080p).

So the refurb is better specs but I really like new products vs used.

it doesn't matter... if you run into any problems dell will fix them. Hell, the new systems comes with problems from time to time... take your original order and be very very happy. Just don't go cheap on the warranty :)

wait, I just read you original specs... you BETTER keep the original :p you have a better ram plus some other things :)

Get dell's drivers for the bigfoot and try them out. Its a 50/50 shot whether or not it stays stable.

Then when it sucks, you have to download the Atheros drivers for the 1103. When you get to that point (if), i'll help you download them

Bro, get it new. i've seen too many complaints on these forums over shoddy workmanship on the refurbs

Ram is cheap and you'll probably want to get a SSD anyways, so the extra 750 is nullified. Killer 1103 is overrated and if you want killer that bad, i know someone selling a 1102 CHEAP ;)

And what the heck is WF HD 1080p?

so what! What's the difference between a used Lamborghini and a new Lamborghini? Nothing... they are both equally as awesome, one just have a few extra miles :) The package you are getting with the refurb is outstanding! Take your used lambo of gaming rigs and be freakin happy!!!

i've been on these forums a lot. You often hear about refurbs having issues. I'm not saying that its an automatic failure, but even when the computer works, i see pics of scratches, gaps, dents...and when you complain, and a tech comes over to fix it, they often break something else.

Anyways, some hairy man watched pron on that used laptop...do you really want to use that keyboard?

1600mhz is slightly (not noticeably?) faster when it comes to processing. Anyways, it doesn't matter... you are winning beyond belief. If you notice my sig, I'm waiting on a 8gb 1600mhz :)

lol don't listen to slickdude.... get a new keyboard when it comes in... just say a key or two doesn't work and they will replace it with a new one lol. If you get your rig beat up, dell will replace each component :) and as far as tech support goes. As long as you watch the like a hawk, you are golden because if he messes something up... hey! you might be getting something better at your door step shortly :)

There really is no difference at all, unless 1333MHz is the max. 1333MHz is the max for my M11x, so when i put in 1600MHz hyper-X is simply scaled down to 1333MHz which meant better timings (8-8-8-23 instead of 9-9-9-24).

Nice! the 3960 will go to 4.8ghz out of the box with no tweaking though...people getting over 5ghz on them on air Zero tweaking. 4.2? You must used the default Asus OC profile...i've got my 2700K at 5ghz, 100% stable

what? holy cow, how the heck did that 2920xm get in there? ;) (and no, i didn't get that one)

oh noes my thread has been hijacked! lol its all good though.

Soon I will be a geek with you guys and talking about upgrading my alien!

btw went with the new one with less RAM for $71 more than what I paid for the refurb with better RAM....I just love buying NEW and customized for me systems. I am not as tech savvy as you guys to be able to fix or mess around with a refurb model. Yes this may not be the best choice in the long run but I think its a smart choice for me personally.

    Check your PM

Thanks Bro! We'll see how far this one goes. Its oem so it should be pretty robust

hahaha...sorry bro. And welcome to the m17x family. Forget about ram...you can add all the ram you want later...takes 5 mins. We'll help you there. And an SSD is something you'll want to consider. Its probably the best mod you can do in a laptop

don't you just love that fresh silicon smell? lol...Ram is definitely something that can be added later and apparently video cards too ;)
