    Hi.

I've just been pluging the PS3 to my M17x R3, but I immediately noticed the poor picture quality. The picture weren't "soft" as it is on my LCD at all.
I have the newest AMD drivers to my 6990M card, so I don't think that's the problem. Is there some settings I need to configure on the PS3 system to get better quality?

I think it will only run at 720p or 900p not FHD. Not sure about it.

Mine looks fine when I plug in my 360 or PS3. It should be 1080p.

I don't think the resolution is at 1080p even though I have configured the settings to support all screen sizes, included 1080p/i. It's especially easy to see the bad quality on the smoothing in the XMB and on places in games were lights and such fades. You just see the colors building up step by step instead of fading smoothly away...

I have the same problem when connecting my 360, unfortunately, I have not found a solution. It looks like the color pallet is reduced and AA is turned off, strange, right?

Doesn't anybody have a solution to this? Also noticing when connecting my M17x to my 32" LED TV, the picture on the TV gets better actually. My background image shows more details, and games gets better image quality.
    Now why is that?

I run my PS3 all the time on my xR3 with very good results... ( even my buddy's ps3 runs great on my laptop )

you might want to try a hard reset the PS3's video settings.

Make sure the PS3 system is off.
Hold down the Power Button for 5-6 seconds - until you hear the second beep.
That's it, your video settings are reset and you should be able to choose your input and configure it from there.

Another thing that most likely isn't the issue but worth a test:
the hdmi cable version... there are cables that are for the certain versions...
1.0 - 1.2a HDMI version cables might cause issues with the hdmi 1.3 port on the laptop and the ps3...?

I got this issue as well on my PS3. But since i couldnt fix it, i just get used to it. The color have borders that make them look like strip of rainbow, almost anywhere on the screen.

I experienced this as well, but I determined it to be because the input source was seeing my machine as a 1080p display despite the fact that I have a 900p monitor, so it was doing a horrible job at mashing the image onto my lower res screen.

I've discovered the bad image quality to have something to do with the M17x R3 screen. Because once I connect my M17x to my 32 inch, background images and games looks more detailed and smoother. This means it has to be the M17x screen and thus have nothing to do with the PS3...

Yesterday i change from 6990M to GTX 580M. Updated to latest 301.10 driver. And suprise! No more rainbow-y colors for me.

Just thought you guys may want to know, could be an isolated case...

Interesting. Does that mean the 6990M downgrades the image-quality, or may it be the driver perhaps?

not sure about that but mine system originally came with a 6870M and it got the same rainbow-y color like the 6990M, stock Dell driver and/or the latest beta 12.4.

Seems like the AMD cards are downgrading the picture quality then. I will contact Dell tomorrow to see if there is anything that can be done. Perhaps change the 6990M if possible.

The guy I spoke to at Dell told me it had to be the M17x's screen. It seems like you have Nvidia, which means it wasn't the AMD card to blame. But still, odd...

I have had this problem with my HDMI-In in general. PS3, or Xbox 360 I get the no AA type picture with rough color transitions. Have yet to find a solution. I was running a 580m. I Haven't tried the HDMI -In with my new card yet though...
