Looking into getting an M17xR4 Off Of CL

    i7-3610QM 2.30GHz
    NVIDIA GeForce GTX 660M 1600x900
    8gb Ram
    750GB HDD

its 19 months old, the motherboard was replaced this month and lcd was replaced last month. No Recovery CDs, Just the Driver CD and the (Felt?) Bag to keep the laptop in.

the underside of the laptop is scratched and missing all of the rubber feet, and the bezel around the keyboard has a crack on the right hand side. the top lid looks perfect though.

Also i don't know if this was from the screen replacement but when the monitor is off you can see dust particles everywhere, but you cant see it when the screen is on.

its owned by a gentleman in his 50s that was using it as a college laptop with Dragon Voice Software, dont even think the GTX kicked on once over the HD 4000. The Keyboard appears to be Brand new, no scuffs or smudges on keys, non missing or lifted up.

everything else look good other than what i have already mentioned. the laptop is out of warranty as well.

hes asking $600, i was wondering if that was a good price for this laptop 19 months later (how the gfx card hold ups with games like BF4, Titanfall and anything else that may come this year. ) and if the cosmetic issues take anything away from it, mainly the dust under the Screen Glass.

Any help with this would be appreciated.

    Thanks For Reading.

I think its a steal for $600. You can spend about $400-500 on a 780M and you'll max out any game. And $200-300 for a 3840QM will mean you will have a system that should work well for 2-3 years...

With those 2 upgrades you should be able to play any game you want for a long time!

For $600 I think it is quite a nice bargain.
As Porras said, this will definitely carry your games for quite some time.
    I'd go for it.

Woah, so before you drop money on this let me add my 2 cents.

For $600 yes it seems like a good deal but due to the cosmetic damage I would be cautious. Make sure everything is working before you buy as it sounds like this person was a little rough on the laptop....I can't figure out for the life of me why the rubber feet would be removed because there is no reason for it as you don't need to remove them to get at screws or anything.

Now as for game performance, the CPU will be just fine, I wouldn't worry about upgrading that as it will handle anything you throw at it for quite some time but the GPU isn't the fastest model available. If you are looking to run BF4 and Titanfall you will be able to , but you won't be maxing out the settings and playing on Ultra. The saving grace here is it does not have the 1080p disaply so the GPU won't be working as hard as it could if you had the higher res display. If your fine with that then I would jump on it as $600 is pretty cheap. If the cosmetic damage is that bad you can buy new panels for it off ebay and a few other 3rd party stores to replace them. You could probably get new feet from Alienware if you phoned them and bought them.

another thing i was thinking about this evening, is it possible to extend the warranty that's since expired 7 months ago, if so how much would it cost and what would it cover?
you have all been so helpful in this matter i really appreciate it.

In my experience, you can renew the warranty even if its expired. It should be around $200-280 for a year, renewing is more expensive than extending. You get 1 year of phone w/ remote diagnosis support and in home repairs if available in your area.
