    Possible reason why 120Hz Panel doesn't allow Optimus?

    It might be that the ATI cards as well as the on-CPU GPU do not support 120hz panels on mobile units which is why you are required to have that specific NVidia card when you place the order.

    as far as needing nVidia v. ATi is concerned, the reason is that the laptop uses nVidia's nVision 3d to communicate with the glasses etc. That requires an nVidia graphics card, just like it does in a desktop.

    For optimus your guess is as good as mine
