I am not sure how it works, but I have a m17x R3, with a Nvidia 460M GTX. And the integrated card is the intel 3000 family or whatever. I did not get the SLI crossfire or whatever so I just got 1 good graphics card, is there another slot that I can install another graphics card into? Like say I got the AMD 6869 or whatever that graphics card was or the gpu compatible with the I7, is there going to be a slot inside the laptop where I can manually install myself? or is there like a PCI express graphics card I can get? The only reason I want to do this is to be able to play Counter-strike 1.6 freely without fps drops! OPTIMUS IS preventing me from playing counter-strike 1.6, so I am willing to take drastic measures just to play the darn game! I know pretty much any GPU that came out after 2008 is going to be able to handle counter-strike fine.

any help is greatly appreciated thank you!

No. Short answer. The best you can do is a 6990 or 580. R3 only has a single GPU config. And you should be able to play CS with no probs. Use your warranty and call support-1-800-ALIENWARE.

So Only option = Upgrading video card right? is it fairly simple? I am willing to purchase the 6990 since it doesn't use the optimus and later on in the future I can swap out the 6990 with the 460m.

As soon as I find the 6990m online to buy separately I will be selling my 6970m. It's in perfect condition with repaste on it. Only had it for 2 months. Just food for thought!!
