I have recently discovered some issues with my battery. I have had my laptop plugged in for months, it hasn't been moved. Today, I wanted to watch some TV episodes I downloaded on the couch and some strange things started happening.

When I unplug my laptop, it either completely cuts power and turns off, or it displays a warning saying the battery is going to die right away if not plugged in. Sometimes it turns off seconds after this messages displays. Occasionally, it will work normal for 5 or 10 min, with the battery level at 100% and decreasing as expected, and suddenly one up the two situations described above will suddenly occur.

I have no idea what is going on here...my battery says it's 100% charged when its plugged in. If I managed to have it unplugged long enough to drain a few percent, it charges back up as expected.

I have tried taking the battery out and holding the power button for 15 sec, which has not had any effect. The battery fits very snug with no movement at all, so the battery shouldn't be losing connections or anything.

Is there anything else I should do? Unfortunately, my warranty expired a few weeks ago...I hope this is something I can fix on the cheap.

Sounds like one of three things: Bad battery, Bad motherboard, or something within the Operating System not detecting properly. If I had this problem I would first re-install Windows to eliminate the OS as a possibility. Second, I would borrow a battery, or buy a new one to see if that was the issue (resell it if not, or just keep it as a spare). Third, if those failed to rectify the issue, I would buy a new motherboard ...or more likely just live with it, knowing that I need to bring the power supply everywhere I go.

Unfortunately I had a similar problem in an old Dell about 5 years ago and it was the motherboard.

Try this troubleshooting and if it does not work then you could probably need a hardware replacement. (Battery, mobo or adapter), if that's the case please send us an e-mail to [email protected] and we'll help you as much as we can :). Remember to add your tag, phone and a brief description of the issue.
