Yesterday and today I have drained the battery to around 60 percent or so and when I plug the power supply back in it doesn't start charging right away and the laptop doesn't show as being connected to the power supply. The blue ring around the power supply plug lights up and then dims to off over and over for a couple minutes and then it turns solid blue and starts charging. I have tested this when the battery is full by unpluging it waiting a min or two and plugging it back in but the laptop sees it right away and starts charging. Normal?

    Thanks!

Have you tried a different power outlet?

no I have not... So this isn't normal? Kinda like the ps going into like a standby mode from not being connected to the laptop for a couple hours? I hate calling Dell support...

No, the blue led should stay on for as long as the PSU it's plugged in a functional outlet.

Sorry I must have left that out... It does stay blue but upon plugging it back into laptop it starts to fade and get bright again for around a minute, then laptop sees it and starts charging normal.

for anyone else that may have a question about this like I did it seems to be normal. I had alienware send me a new power supply and battery and when battery is low the ps light will sometimes pulsate before turning a solid blue and beginning to charge.

quick update on this. Had a problem over the weekend where I drained the battery down to 40% and plugged the a.c. Adapter in but it wouldn't start charging. Laptop eventually drained completely and died. Called alienware today and they are building me a new r3. They were going to replace the mobo until I reminded them that this issue was reported to them within their 21 day return period. Hopefully the new one is issue free and comes with a10 bios :)
