Now that the R3 is available for Europe (UK site) i compared the prices:

    2720QM, 6970M, 8GB 1333MHz, 1080p HD screen.

    UK price: $4 239
    US price: $2 169
    Price difference: $2070

So there you have it. Some people have been saying that you might as well buy from Europe because the price difference isn`t that much and it will be the same if you include custom fees with US price.
Verdict: Buy from US if possible. Insane price difference. Please see my thread if you want tip on how to order from the US.

That's precisely what you shouldnt do, you need to make a fuss over this phone them up ask them how they reach the price difference given the currency exchange rate and taxes etc. It's never any use to sit back and put up with things like this.

Yes i agree 100% with you that we shouldn`t have to put up with these BS prices here in Europe but at the same time i don`t think it will be that easy to make them lower their prices here either :(

Yea, the best I got by talking to sales is £250 off.

    That was still on a 1 year warranty/4gb ram/2720qm/3d bundle/standard wifi/320gb hard drive

This cost me £2,450 with the £250 off.

It was so funny I actually laughed over the phone and just quit.

    Not worth it.

I've sent an e-mail to the head man asking him to explain the pricing discrepancies - I suggest you do so to. I dont mind them adding 30% on to cover vat and import duties but the pricing is just silly at present.

The price difference is not justified.

Remember that VAT would have to be paid if you found someone that ships it to you.

On a slightly different note - is it possible to get the UK keyboard and then swap it onto an imported US model?

Yes, but the most of the keyboards on ebay and other site are between £50 and £80.

Really just remember hold alt and dial 156 on the numpad = £

Other than that the US layout withholds nothing.

The local Dell (in that country) is free to set whatever prices they see fit, what they think the customers in that country are prepared to pay. This usually means double the price or more, compared to the U.S. I have experience from Asia as well. Particularly Alienware models are way overpriced.

And it's always sad to see the upgrade prices on CPUs. For example, for the M11x, upgrading from the i5-520UM to the i7-640UM costs around $380 at Swedish Dell. The bulk price difference for the CPUs from Intel is $60... It's ridiculous.

maxed out 3D system £3900 and that does not include the 1600mhz memory or extreme cpu, I'd guess that would add another £800 so the total UK price for the system in my signature would be about £4700, price checked through HID £2600, Dell really really need to address this.

The problem is, that europeans are willing to buy it at the price Dell UK etc set because they are unaware that there is so HUGE price difference between Europe and US.

If we were, Dell wouldn`t sell any huge numbers and therefor would have to lower the price. And i don`t think 1-5-10 emails will make them change their prices here either because we would probably need a huge petition against them.

I have been buying from the US for a while now! I am sick of paying UK prices.
Its not just Dell, I bought a couple of Envy's which were about 25% cheaper after vat/customs and also gave me the option to configure them unlike the UK HP site.

As long as the product has a global warranty you are laughing. and the US keyboard is easy to adjust to.

If nobody does anything then of course the prices will stay the same. They dont have to be unreasonable, just look at the M15x pricing - much more reasonable $1199 in US £999 in UK.

And what do you propose we do?

I have spoken to countless reps and they blatently do not care. They will happily lose a 2k sale rather than drop the price in line with US pricing.

Did another price comparison, this time the M15X.

Specs: i7 840QM, 8GB 1333 RAM, 1080p screen, GTX 260M with US model and GT 240M with UK model. They didn`t offer the same GPU. The US GPU is MUCH better.

    Price:
    US: $2174
    UK: $3128

    Price difference: $954.
    Taxes and expenses: $534 (20% VAT $434) + $100 in postal service
    Money saved $420

The shipping cost with Fedex is about $350.00 from USA to most European countries.

It is about $130.00 with USPS.

There are other ways, I can't help more because I guess those services are held by certain import/export agencies, and they should be different from country to country, but I could import my g73 paying something like 55/65 euros (I remember I was disapponted because I had to pay some USA taxes not related to the pc importing procedure, those where taxes applyed inside NY city... ).

Well I managed through one of the UK reps Steve Jones recommended to get a £600 discount on the system - effectively taking the base price to £1200 which is much more reasonable. Still going to see if the executive office can sort out the pricing in general on the site when I get the callback however.

That will put the price comparison to this

    M17x R3
    2720QM, 6970M, 8GB 1333MHz, 1080p HD screen.

    UK price: $3 239
    US price: $2 169
    Price difference: $1070

Even so that is a very good discount. Is that just for you or did he say that they will offer this to all Europeans on the UK site?

I've bought my system in Germany from Dell for 3484 Euro.
In the US for this amount converted to dollars I could fully max my system out...

I thought it is the same with German cars in the US, but not..
for example, Audi R8 5.2 prices from official websites:
in Germany starting from 144400 Euro
in the US starting from 149000 Dollars  where is the logic

    Wow, that's awesome.

    They actually did lower it.

Next job lower it more along with the upgrade prices.

Firstly well done on getting the price lowered...

I was really worried that the price had dropped to a point that would have made it pointless me having ordered from the states.

Even with the price drop, my configured, delivered machine was the same in USD from the states as getting it in the UK in GBP. The base model in the UK is now good value but the upgrades are still stupidly inflated, except the 6300 extreme wireless card?? odd.

It's still too high but this is the right step and I'm happy that it happened.
