Yep. just checked on the UK website and indeed the base price has changed from £1799 to £1499.

Thats the kind of figure it should have been in the first place. I havent gone through configuring a system for fun yet but lets just hope that the initial decrease has not been tagged onto the components. Could be a nice crafty trick to fool people into thinking the price has been reduced.

Good work Simon. +rep for the effort! ;)

On a side note, I wonder if Dell would reimburse those that bought at "FULL PRICE" with the difference - I know that if I had paid £1799 and now its £1499, I would be steaming mad lol - wishful thinking at its best here LOL

EDIT: Just ran through a full config and yes, the components havent been bumped up to compensate for the initial price reduction so thats good news. Dont think we can expect much more within the UK. Stuff is ALWAYS more expensive than the States - thats just how it is. At least it is now priced a bit more realistically.

I talked to the Executive person today not only about the base price but also upgrade prices and he said right now they can't cut anymore but in a couple of weeks/a month when they withdraw the R2 either the base price or upgrade price might come down a little as well.

Also I asked about the matte screen option but they said cost/production wise it's unlikely to happen.

Yes you have indeed made them change their prices Simon. Good job :)

Here is what the new price on the UK alienware site compares:
    Same config as above.

    UK Price: $3 800
    US Price: $2 169
    Price difference: $1631
Money saved by buying it from US:
    $2169 + $434 (20% VAT) + $140 (postal service) = $2743
    $3800 - $2743 = $1057

Sure. I to hope everything goes well.

I used Steve's rep and got a nice cut back but even with that I turned away. The base price is a good start they just need to control the upgrade prices which are high.

The only thing I rather get from uk is the black Orion messenger case which looks awesome. :D

Thanks. Will update once everything is done.

I love 3d so that's the reason. I'm not really a big gamer either although I want to start playing the latest ones.

I hope the next nvidia options comes out and then it would be perfect.

Looks like they've lowered the prices in Belgium also.
    2 days ago I configured a M17x R2 and the total was 2504€.
Today I did the same and now the price is 1984.

    That's a differences of 518€ in 2 days!!!

Firstly well done Simon, thats a great effort. The prices are still too high in the UK though compared to the US once you have specced up your machine.

Can someone recommend a reputable US importer of the M17X to the UK.

I have a few questions about importing from the US.

    1. Will a US warranty be valid in the UK, is it worldwide ?

    2. I take it the US model comes wityh a US 2 pin power cable, is it simply a case of buying a plug converter, will their be any power issues in the UK ?

    3. Can the keyboard be easily changed to a UK keyboard ?

    4. If you import from the US will the price include all taxes as i don`t want a customs bill when it arrives ?

    5. What are the main differences between a US M17X and a UK one ?

    1. Will a #US warranty be valid in the UK##, is it worldwide ?
Yes, as long as you buy it from a buyer sign warrant tranfer form online.
    2. I take it the US model comes wityh a US 2 pin power cable, is it simply a case of buying a plug converter, will their be any power issues in the UK ?
No, power issues just need a adapter which is cheap and easy.
    3. Can the keyboard be easily changed to a UK keyboard ?
I seen some sell keyboards on ebay but th6at was for R2.
    4. If you import from the US will the price include all taxes as i don`t want a customs bill when it arrives ?
No duty cost but you do pay the VAT
    5. What are the main differences between a US M17X and a UK one ?
None except the layout of the keyboard

    about the warraty.....
I have chatted to the US rep online while configuring the machine and he told me that I need to go for the advanced plan, to get it accepted in the UK.
Is that true, or they just want to get more money from our pockets?

Dutch prices dropped from 1999 euro to 1699 euro. That is for the standerd system. Still way to much compared to the US.

With the new lower base price if you get a good rep you'll have no problem getting a discount to get it for around the US price. The rep I used (and ordered via) gave me a price with negligible difference to the US one when you count the shipping and VAT fees I would be charged to import one. Plus ofc. the inconvenience of a US keyboard with the keys in the wrong place ^^

Hahaha - sounds like you are being given the run around.....maybe visit Dell uk website - there is a section there for warranty. Maybe you can email them and get a definitive reply once and for all.

I wouldnt like to comment one way or the other but I have heard that warranty is transferable from one country to another. I would imagine as long as your country has a Dell service centre or mobile techicians, cant see the big deal ....

Based on Ebay rating and some user experience, you can try HIDevolution. He just joined this forum not long ago. There is a dedicated thread about ordering from HIDevolution.

According to user feedback from Canada, the warranty will be transferable if the user purchase a 3 years warranty. This is unconfirmed with Dell Canada. Just a point of reference.

correct it is transferable no issue, even if the warranty was not transferable you simply cancel the extended warranty in the US (you will get a refund) and extend the warranty in the UK.............simple
