Does the R3 start using the discreet graphics card on boot or do I have to hit fn + F7 to turn it on?

As a follow up to that question, how can I tell which card is currently active?

    Discreet GPU is a 6990m.

Once you have loaded windows and you hit the combination of FN+F7 you will be on that GPU for as long as you want (even if you restart / turn off your system). To change it to a different GPU you will have to press again the same combination of keys. And yes, right click on your desktop / Graphics Properties (will tell you which GPU is enabled).

As others have said, in addition I find I have to restart the laptop after switching to dGPU or else it won't run at full clocks.
