    Hello!

I own my m17x for a few months now. Generally i am really impressed and happy with the Notebook itself and it's performance.

Since last Sunday i have experienced some problems with one of the HDDs of my Raid-0 System.

    And that is the problem:

The System sometimes locks up in windows. I have to reboot the system in order to get it to work again.

After resetting the system i get a HDD-error in this post-screen. It tells me that the second HDD isn't accessable.. it is marked in red. Sadly I did not make a picture of the screen....

Surprisingly the system (so far) still boots into windows. The intel rapid-storge-application shows me the same error. By setting HDD back to "normal" i can "fix" the problem until the next freeze.

The Intel Rapid storage thing suggests to get a replacement for the "damaged" HDD.

So my question is: Should i call Alienware for a new HDD or is this only a software glitch? It conserns me because at the moment i do not have a backup of my files! My external HDD (ordered it on Friday) is getting here approximately at Tuesday... i hope the system will make it till then.

Well do i need a replacement for the HDD? What are your experiences?

I added some pictures of the intel rapid storage application but it's all in german...

    Thank you for your help!

Try to scan your disk first and see if this will fix your problem.
    Goto:
Computer -> Right Click on your disk (C: ) -> Properties -> tab "Tools" -> "Check now" and select both options (it will take really long, probably hours) and it will check when you will reboot

After you do that tell us what happened and we'll see how you have to proceed. If one of your disks is failing then you need to take a back up of your most critical data using DVDs ASAP, don't wait for the external disk to come.

^^ +1 on what the gentleman above me said. Back up asap or you are in danger of loosing ALL your data.

If you have decent internet connection bandwidth, then I would strongly suggest that you not wait on the external HDD, but use an online backup immediately.

There are many options out there. Mozy is not a bad choice. I prefer Jungle Disk. It is VERY cheap and secure. Your house could burn down with every bit of computer hardware you own, and your data will still be safe.

First of all thank's for the replies.

After reading your responses this issue really seems to be very critical. I decided to move my Data to my old desktop later this night, assuming that it still works :)

So you would ask for a replacement by dell am i right?

    Thanks
