Do you think your DVD Rom or BD Rom are a bit sensitive ? yes my BD Rom is a bit sensitive, so far I have a VCD couldn't play, but it can play on my other laptop. I also have two game discs when I ejected, there was nothing happen, also when I was playing a music in window media, I ejected the disc, my music hanged. after all these problems happened, I checked back the disc, those CD had scratches or dirty, yes I still think my BD Rom is too sensitive cause I try on my other laptop (studio 15) it can play the VCD and won’t have the problem when I eject the disc.

(Highlight: when I eject a disc if nothing happen mean the disc had many scratches or dirty, so I have to log off my window or restart, then it can eject, if music hang in window media, try to press the power button to let it sleep, just need some luck when pressing the button, I remember I was not just pressing at once, just press one time see what happen, if nothing happen, then press the 2nd time or 3rd time to let it sleep .)

my BLU reader does the same thing, it's very finicky. Luckily I'm getting my writer back, never had a problem with that drive. Could ask dell for an exchange, but it's likely they'll blow it off to being the cd's problem

I got my exchange because I had a new system replacement where it came with the reader instead of the writer. They still have the writers as a spare parts exchange so I got mine since my replacement didn't come with equivilent hardware. A optical drive replacement will require an on-site to replace, and it involves removing the audio/express card board as well as the magnesium cover. It's probally the hardest component to service besides the mainboard. Not to say that it's extremely difficult, just that you have to tear the laptop completly down to get to it.

Besides all that, the writer is just a lot more smooth in general and a lot more quiet than the reader. It's a world of difference. Idk what they make the BLU readers out of but it feels like it belongs in an HP.

For some reason the BD drives just plain old suck. Ive got one in my Area 51 M17x and Ive had it replaced twice. Mine stops reading BluRays after about 6 months. and yes ive tried cleaning it with every possible cleaning remedy there is.

I just ordered a new m17x with dvdrw bdrom and it won't play bluray!!!!... I checked the system specs to make sure that was the hardware installed and it is listed there, so what could be the problem? the laptop is brand new!
