I recently purchased the Panasonic UJ-235a for my m17 rx2. I installed it, it is recognized by windows but it will not read anything I put into it whether it's a cd or a dvd. I'm not sure if there's something in the bios I need to change or what.

I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling it, I updated the firmware no problem, but for some reason it will not read anything. Any help would be great on how I can solve this problem. Thank you in advance.

Here's more info on my issue. I purchased the the new drive because the old one was doing the same thing and not reading all cd's. It only would read a few on occassion. The old drive would spin so fast and make noise that i thought it was def at the end of it's life.

The issue started after installing nero suite 10. I did a system restore and things seemed to work fine again. So like a dumb I reinstalled Nero and had the same problem. But only this time a system restore did not fix it. If it wasn't Nero that did it, then it was one of the many windows updates that corrupted it, as it was close to a fresh clean install of windows when the problem occurred.

So with the new drive in I've got it to read cd's and dvd-r's but even the new drive spins wayyyyy to fast. DVD-ROM's will not read and when the drive spins them it sounds like an aircraft carrier.

I'm convinced somehow that this is a software issue more than a hardware issue. My only question is would a software issue cause a system not to be able to boot from cd?

I would really like to just reinstall windows to see if it helps, but I can't do so because I can't boot from the windows DVD-ROM.

I find it very hard to believe I have 2 Junk drives when the computer is less than 2 years old.
