Problem with 120hz Screen Upgrade in R1 17" with GTX 1060

Hi guys,
Back in June I upgraded my Ranger with the Pascal 1060 card, flawlessly on the 60Hz screen.
Now I'm trying to upgrade to the 120Hz screen P01 model but I can't make it work.
I get the famous 8 beep sound when I try to boot.
I already removed the CMOS battery, battery and hold on the power button for 30 seconds but then I get 5 beeps and then 8 beeps again.
I'm on FULL UEFI and A17 BIOS.
Of course I plug in the screen into the eDP port and not the LVDS.
What I am doing wrong?

For best compatibility, I would've gone with the D01 or D02 models, but others will have to chime in on the compatibility of the P01 model with this laptop.

Remember for the BIOS reset, you also need to remove all RAM installed in the system as well. Turn the laptop on, let it beep (2 beep error code) until it shuts down, then quickly insert a RAM module before the laptop restarts itself.

Also what 1060 are you using? Did you get the one from MSI (black PCB)?

 

Prior to this, did you deactivate the iGPU as the first step?
So the BIOS is set to PEG mode now.

How can i do it? Do I have to install an unlocked bios?

 

Yes I got a black 1060 one. I think is MSI

 

There are two things you can try:

1. Reinstall your old 60 Hz LVDS panel and use the FN + F5 keyboard combination within Windows to manually switch the primary display output card to the dedicated GPU.

2. Perform a BIOS reset.

I'd suggest trying the first option first. That's what I did before I installed my 120 Hz panel to make sure there would be no issues. I wasn't sure if the laptop would auto-switch the primary display output card when I swapped the panel. Looks like it doesn't.

 

Will try this weekend but seems like a biombos screen thing.

Yeah this sounds like your problem. The laptops that were shipped with the 120Hz are on PEG by default but you'll need to manually swap yours first.

Hi Guys,thanks for the replies, hope this were so easy.
I already theorically switch the output to the external GPU and still 8 beeps when I try to boot with the new screen.
When I try to boot with the new screen and the HDMI pluged-in to an external 49 monitor I get like 15 with no image and 1 second with. Kind of "image cuts".
Will just put in the old screen and sell the new one.
