Im trying to overclock my 7970 and successed at the first time to a 885/1250 using afterburner, but after i reboot it and reset the freq to that value again, the screen started to flicker and when i downclocked the ram to 1220, it worked. but again the same thing happened and now i can only set it to 860/1200, not knowing will he keep it.
i know the durablity of a card differs from another and the upper limit are not the same. but now it looks like my card can not be oced at all and i even started to think if it can work with no problem in the stock clock. im using the 12.7 driver now, thinking could that be attributed to the driver? shall i change it to 12.5 or even 11.9 to try that again?

nope its not your driver...i think you will benefit greatly with 1.075v

Dell just guarantees that the card will work at 850/1200 and no more. Member stZu had very similar issues as you, he put the 1.075v bios on and was very happy with the results. His card came alive after that. Refer to this thread:

I'm not recommending that you overvolt but it looks like this is the only way your card will get a better OC

lol...well, if you are going to do it, monitor your temps after and take it slow (since you've never done a volt increase before)

I have finished it and runned the 3d11, the temp didnt exceed 70c and the performance in 3d11 is SPECTACULAR!
now im going to run unigineheaven.
since thats the first time i am still quite nervous and hope it could just remain safe and sound...
just to make sure what if i got my card broken? will i have to purchase anotherone or dell can fix or replace it for me?

bro, your card is under warranty...lets just leave it at that ;)

Glad to see that all you needed was a little more juice. I see lots of 7970m's that could benefit from a little more juice
