I dont get what you mean...
Is this what you mean :
You buy a R1 ALIENWARE laptop from seller ....
then the seller said that the R1 adapter lamp was not light on.
Is that what you mean ?

    well...
First, when you use the adapter , DOES the lamp light on ?
IF DOES, then its not a problem, its normal to have adapter lamp ON...
But if the light was off, then gotta ask DELL to exchange it for a new one...

Second, when you use the adapter , DOES it charged your battery ?
If DOES, then its not a problem...

THIRD. TAKE OFF your battery. Try to Start your alienware with adapter.
If everything going smoothly and not detected any problem...
    then everything is fine..

Erm....isnt that an R2 :D - i think there are older power adaptors that do not have the blue light around the jack...mine does as it is a 240w power unit....I think the older PSU's were 210w and were bigger without a light....

The R1's used 240 watt adapter, with sli and/or extreme procs. Mine has always had the blue ring. R1 and R2. Look in the bios Hongha and check the voltage there.
