I have a m17x with the killer wireless 1103 card and windows 7 pro.

For the last 2 days my internet will randomly turn on and off. Well it will be on then all the sudden I get the yellow ! that says limited connectivity and my status is no internet access but I still have all 5 bars. It will show that for 5 minutes then come back on. Then 5 minutes later same problem.

When I reinstall the internet driver that solves the problem for about 1-2 hours but then it comes back. I think this problem has happened every since I downloaded the windows update 2 days ago. Though I am not sure. That is just what I noticed when I looked into doing a system restore to a few days ago.

I called alienware and they had me turn off all the features of the card where it may shut down to conserve battery but that didn't fix the problem. They said all they can do is replace the card at this point. But I don't think replacing the card will fix this issue, since I don't think it is a hardware issue being that this just started happening a couple days ago. Anyone have any insight maybe on what is causing this??

No one can comment? When I do a system restore to before the update the problem is still there. And when I install the atheros driver problem is fixed but Internet is slow as hell in comparison. Dell right now re updated the bios even though it was already at 11 so they r running out it options

Now they want to put the intel 6300 in my laptop is that better than the 1103? They both have the same 450 speeds. And I don't use the application management for the killer.

I've had both and no problems at all with the Intel. I only eneded up with the killer card as it came with a replacement machine.

When it happens have you tried resetting your router without doing anything on the PC? - the problem could be at that end. Also try opening a command window and issuing the command 'ipconfig /renew' no quotes. This will force the card to reset it's connection and may give you some useful information as to the problem...

I reset the router. Everything in my house besides the alienware works perfectly. I can almost get it to happen everytime I load like 5 youtube videos in 1080p and play something on netflix as well. Right now everything is working perfectly though. they told me the rep would call me before to schedule a time to come so in the meantime I wanted some info on the intel products. Since I saw they only offered the 6250 on their website I'm wondering when they got the 6300 and I wanted to see how that compares with the 1103.

Can't help with that but if they do fit a diferent card make sure your bluetooth is still working - there is some confusion as dell cards (appear to) have the BT and killer do not. You might end up with two???

Two bluetooth modules, a separate one and the inbuilt on the dell card.

Full system exchange is good though! Hit them up for a new warranty, I did and got a 6 month extension :D

They were going to do a full system exchanger and a 50 dollar refund. But because they cannot configure the 6300 on the website (I guess it isn't available yet for everyone else to order) they are giving me a 30 dollar refund and sending the 6300 to be installed at my house. But its really weird because now my internet is working perfectly and not dropping at all. I may just call them later in a couple days and say don't send it. Though I'm kinda thinking the 1103 vs 6300 is like the 7970 vs 680 in which case I picked the 680 for quality and better functioning drivers. Maybe I should let them put the 6300 in regardless? At least I know intel doesn't mess up like this.

If you don't on-line game in contention (like in a dorm) or have multiple inet apps that you want to control, like give a torrent DL low priority, then personally I'd say the simpler the better(intel). Sounds like they are looking after you though :D

Just disable the aplication manager and then you shouldn't have the dropouts. My personal belief is that the problem is between the killer software and certain routers. I haven't had a single dropout since updating to the latest drivers on the r4 page, but I have the application manager turned off as it doesn't work so hot for me.

I did have the dropout issues but they've gone with the combiniation of latest beta drivers...

    Atheros & Zidas drivers

And changing channels (from 7 to auto) on the router, live in a congested area with multiple networks in close proximitry.

Even application manager and game mode work as well. But it doesnt seem to fix it for others. Tiz a wild beast of a bug in the drivers i suspect.

For everyone's record my application manager is off. The atheros driver did solve the issue but it ran so slow in comparison to the killer driver. Also I installed the latest driver straight from the killer website. But anyways so far since starting this thread I actually haven't had any drop outs thankfully. So perhaps the problem went away on its own. Though now I'm wondering is the intel 6300 better or the same? They both have the same speed and specs but the only thing it seems the killer has over intel is the application manager which I have off and don't use because it actually slowed down my internet instead of making it faster.

I could see no difference in use, I actually chose the intel originally based on the same conclusion you have come to. Dell gave me this killer card as a 'freebie upgrade' and it did give me problems originally until I figured out to turn off the application manager.

Yea I don't see how there could be a difference especially with application manager turned off. They both say they go up to speeds of 450

    Interesting update.

I can pretty much replicate the internet dropping out any time I load 4-5 videos at once. But if I am just on webpages then there are no problems.

Yeah I had the same issue, anytime the connection was under load around 5megabytes per second would 'stall' the connection. Have you tried the BETA drivers I linked earlier? I had issues with the killer network drivers direct from them.

Yea I used the atheros drivers they make it work fine. The problem is the speeds drops dramatically. My 1080p youtube videos go from loading in seconds to again in 20 minutes.

If they are giving out the 6300 i might give them a call, since i hate the killer card.

It works on win 7 for me but only with certain drivers.

This could be because of my extended warranty or that my laptop is 1.5 weeks old. Yea basically no one should up date to new killer drivers. Only the atheros will work but the speed will dramatically suffer. I will just enjoy my new intel since its the same thing pretty much
