hey all , wonder if you can help ; no doubt a silly question
    I have the 1920 x 1200 RGBLED screen

while using the laptop (nothing major just browsing net) the brightness of the screen dropped by quite a noticeable amount..
    It looks a lot 'duller'

it is useable I guess - but it was stunningly bright before

Anyone come across this /know how to fix ?

    I've tried
    1) checking powerplan settings in ctrl panel - making sure brightness is MAXED
    2) done the same in 'alien fusion'

    3) tried fn+F4

sorry to double post . ..

just as follow up - uninstalled ATI drivers (driversweeper) and problem went away
    Reinstalled and problem came back

I've just tried a couple of games and the there is massive flickering if I play fullscren with xfire enabled
there is no problem without xfire...

I'm on the new vbios with new (beta) ati drivers

    Any suggestions ? :(

hey Grimfan thanks for the reply

tried eve online and world of warcraft

in wow if I enable vsync (and tripple buffering ) (I never needed to do this before) I get a big flickering screen ....without it I get lots of different sections and lines flickering down the screen
both make the game unplayable .. - in windowed mode/ without Xfire it is fine (obviously still have the screen dull issue though )

do you think my graphics card is toast? >< if so I'll give dell a buzz ....will it be a problem replacing considering they are on the new vbios ? ><

    > < another update-
If I disable catayst AI in the catalyst control c - I dont get the flickering at all but framerate drops from around 115fps (w/o vsync) to around 30-50 - screen still 'dim' though either way

Anyone come across this issue before ? ><

    :(

    Hey theres,

Yeh if you disable AI you are essentially disabling crossfire. Crossfire needs either min standard AI or advanced to be set otherwise it won't run. Disable Catalyst AI only if you are experiencing problems with gaming or other applications. Some games however do run better with single GPU or catalyst AI disabled. They do not support dual GPUs or even multi CPUs very well. So yeh it just depends which game you are playing. If you want you can also use radeon pro to create individual profiles for each game.

Not too sure whats going on with your random dimming.

    Cheers.

Hey reborn thanks for the reply + help - didnt know that (my first ATI card :p) .......that makes sense I guess

any game is doing this i.e massive flickering- have tried a ton and they are unplayable unless I turn off AI / disable crossfire :( (games that were working fine prior to the 'dimming' issue...........eve wow , starcraft , overlord , etc)

I'll try a reinstall I guess as a last ditch attempt then give dell a buzz as something is deffo not well

I dont suppose you know - will being on the new vbios cause a problem with replacements ? ><
(it was all going to well!)

No worries there chiefs. Yeh these are my 1st ATi cards in a very very long time as well. Got my machine a couple weeks back. Been around here reading up quite a bit and learning quite a lot. Its pretty cool to have a forum like this to learn from and help each other out.

The new vbios won't void any warrenty or anything, it is still covered so your fine there. If you do get new replacement cards they will most likely come with the old vbios again lol. So you'll have to do the driver install and vbios update all over again. eheheheh.

Yeh a lot of people were reporting these problems you were having. Most of them managed to fix a little bit of it but the major issue still lies within AMD drivers. So we will just have to wait till AMD fixes it unfortunately. For now we can only try debugging, reinstalling fresh and using vsycn and tripple buffering to try and counteract the issues.

I've been playing FIFA 11 and PES 11 demos myself lately and they don't seem to work well on ATi cards. They run awesome on my R1 with Nvidia GPUs. Like over 100fps and only like 30 fps on the R2 ATi Gpus. Quite disappointing really lol. If I disable catalyst AI or crossfire they do run slightly better but no where near as well as on the Nvidia GPUs.

So I'll just have to wait for a newer AMD driver down the road. Pity that this months 10.9 mobility driver has been postponed and cancelled. We will have to wait till next month for 10.10 or whatever number they are going to use.

    Cheers. :)

yeah i had a slight flickering ingame prior to installing the new vbios which was a lil annoying - then was perfect after installing I was a very happy bunny ..........., now a couple of wks later ..... ....honestly games are literally unplayable is that bad - :(

sounds like drivers are a nightmare, but I'm not so sure that's the issue here - (given this suddenly 'started' to happen with no changes on my side) ...plus the weird dimming issue

Either way I guess I'll just reinstall windows - will only take half hr or so :) that should rule out anything I've screwed up :p
if still bad then i'll call dell

boy am I glad I actually spent the cash on the next day warranty (almost didn't!)

Anyhow , thanks again for all the info above - really appreciate it ^^
