Hey so I have been searching for a long time on what my problem could have been and I tried and looked everywhere and decide to post a thread. I just bought a used M17x R1 and the seller did not have an ac adapter so I had to get my own. I bought the appropriate adapter (it says 100-240v 50-60Hz 1.5A Input and Output is 19.5V 3.34A) and I noticed some problems in the beginning how the charger would shut off after a while and just decided to let it charge. When the battery was full it worked fine until I decided to download games such as Team Fortress 2 and Skyrim where in the beginning of the game when it actually loaded the charger would shut off and I would have about 2 hours to play until the battery ran dry and I had to let it charge all the way up again or else the charger would just shutdown. I could unplug the charger and plug it back in to make it work for about 2 more second until it shu off again. Is it a problem with the charger or with the PSU or the laptop in general? It is a pretty old laptop but I did factory restore it and is this something I can fix at home or would I have to take it to a shop? Thanks for reading and taking the time to respond. Also I can play non straining games such a League of Legends but that's the only one so far and I have a cooler master U3 with 3 fans in certain hot spots so I don"t believe it is overheating.

Sounds strange to me. Have you checked the wattage of the unit compared to what it came with? Maybe it can't supply enough power when stressed and the laptop circuitry that checks it shuts it off?? Just a thought.

I am pretty sure you have the wrong adaptor.
Quick maths voltage x amps = watts
19.5 x 3.34A = 65W
Definitely underpowered. M17x generally require 240W. My charger output is 19.5V 12.3A = 240W -
Thank you very much I guess I saw 240v and thought it meant 240w. Should I buy from Dell directly or do you recommend another possibly cheaper place?

Amazon should be fine, my identical one to the one that came with the laptop was £35.

Thanks man.
Problems charging during games.
